Regency temperatures

Hi...running the same stove this season for 1st time. Since it's gotton colder i've been running in the 375-400 range with the blower on. Our thermometer is in the same spot yours is. It gets to this temp with the door fully closed and the air wide open. I'm burning ash and oak. Let me know if you have other questions....

I have an I2400. I've only done a break-in fire so far, but I'm doing a "real" one this weekend (overnight burn, hopefully). I'll test it out. Remember that all those thermometers are going to be a bit different, and exactly where it's placed is probably important, so "your mileage may vary".

Gor grins and do you guys all have a block off plate? Insulated liner? How tall a chimney? It would be interesting to compare.

My rutland thermometer is "on the door" above the handle of my I2400. Please note that this is on the door and not on the face behind the door as "Smokeless" has it. It runs to 325 max and usually at around 300. I haven't pushed it further so i don't have any idea whether it can go further - I've been stingy with my wood
Today, I'll try to put the rutland "on the face, behind the door" - same place as "Smokeless" has it and let you all know the temperature. Also, my blower always runs.
Other I2400 users (JAmuso, Jay) - do you also put your thermometers on the door or on the face behind the door?

My SS liner is not insulated, but it is inside a tight well-built 8in by 5in clay lined external chimney. Installer said he installed a block-off plate - I wasn't home to confirm. My wife was at home and she din't understand any of our lingo. I'll pull out the surround plate in the spring to see whether the block-off plate was installed.

My thermometer is on the stovetop, directly behind/above the door handle (off center.. I have a steamer thing in the middle of the stovetop). It goes to 200-250 in a low burn, 300 once some wood gets going, 325-350 with a lot of wood going and a lot of air, and 400 when I got secondary burn going the other night (air closed down all the way, small blue flames shooting out horizontally from the holes in the baffle at the top of the firebox)

I have only had the Regency I2400 for a month so far, so this based on one month of 24/7 burning and learning the stove. I am seeing 400 - 525 degrees with good secondary burn when I load up the stove well and damper down. Anything over that and I would be worried. 400 is what I try to maintain for a good hot fire, and it usually maintains this and above for a few hours with a good load. 350-450 appears to be the normal operating range for me so far for 4-5 hour fire. I I am always checking my chimney to make sure there is no smoke, and I am doing ok there but really wish I knew how the stack temp. correlates to my readings on the face of the stove. I want to make sure I am not over burning. The burn tubes glow red at first with the good secondary burns but only for about 45 minutes to an hour. The stove never glows at these temperatures but I make sure to have the fan on high if it is approaching 500.

I have a read in a few threads that the Rutlands show about 100 degrees cooler but I haven't tried one. Here is a pic of the location on the stove.

I have the hampton which is the same stove in enamel...the thermometer will not stick so I put it on the top shelf or cook plate. Can you try the thermometer up there for a day and tell me what you are getting? I have approached 350 there...like 335 is the highest. I am currious how close I am to you in temps.

Sure, since you gave us Favre, I'll give it a try tonight and let you know the temps. Just let me know exactly where to put it on the cook plate.

Would you like A-rod? If you could put it top center flat on the cooktop towards the back of the insert? Thats where mine is and I get say 335 max. Thanks!

I just lifted the thermometer and noticed a lot of scratching in the paint. It seem that as the metal hand moves with the temperature changes the paint scratches off to bare metal. You could see in my earlier picture, just to right of the thermometer, there are some scratches. This was the initial location of the thermometer during break in. I thought those scratches were from running the thermometer without the paint fully cured. It was placed in the current location well after the curing but it is still scratched up quite a bit.

Sorry burntime, but I don't want scratches on top where it will be very visible. Keeping Farve though.

Has anyone noticed scratches on their stoves from thermometers? This is a bummer.

I just had my wife check and she said there are little scratches on my I2400 - not to bare metal though. It's a rutland and I have only been using it for a month.

Just read the scratchs...bummer. I hav not noticed any on mine, maybe try setting it on 2 washers?

Nothing a little high heat paint cant fix

Just got the enamel insert...you don't get scratches?
I was thinking of putting the thermometer under the shelf and use a flash light to read...wonder what those temps would be!

None that I know of. Of course I am not dragging it across the top. Even if there were, the thermometer covers them...
