A farm in Maine
OK

My son is looking to buy a pellet stove and is asking me which one.

I have a Castile from Quadrafire and rate it a 9 out of ten. The only thing that could be better is an automatic pot dump.

Quadrafire Castile

runs of wall thermostat-----check
Auto pot dump---------------no

Anything I forgot?

I love my Quadra Fire Castile. This will be my fourth year with it and I've never had any problems, and it looks great in the living room. Some people at work have stoves from the big box stores and I'm frequently hear stories about problem they are having with them, not big one , but problems just the same.

I have a Earthstove model TP440 for 9 years and absolutely love it! Have never had any issues with this stove and when maintained properly it puts out great heat all day and night!

I'm with Mainer007, we are very pleased with our Castile. It does everything expected of it perfectly and has so far exceeded our expectations.

Happy Heating!

Steve

I have a Castile insert, no issues so far. Hey Shortstuff, what model APC ups is that and about how long of a run time do you get? Will it fire the Castile from a cold start or only run it while it's lit? Sorry for the off topic questions.

First year with my stove but I love it.

Only thing I have found is don't stop it once it has started to light without letting it run or it dumps smoldering ashes into the ash pan, that even with my out/ up setup can smell in the house, but this is a minor issue that I can easily deal with, other than that it rocks

Dude i am sooooooooooooooooo telling.... :)

Flammam, does your wife know you're on this site talking about her that way. You are in so much trouble.

Whitfield Advantage II 1994 Auto Ing. This stove work's great!!! Look's great, Run's great, low maintenance. 10 out of 10 .. What can I say , I think Whitfield's are the best!

Heats well ------------------- mostly heating 2160 two level home. now 76 in and 22 out, furnace kicks in at 72 to keep it the way my wife wants. (that's what counts most!) about 20 min x2 daily
Fines no problem ----------- so far, no known issues. I checked with my brother who sells these now and he hasn't had stove related issues.
safe--------------------------- 3 different safety stops to shut it down should something fail
runs of wall thermostat-----Doesn't have. One less thing to go wrong
Auto pot dump-------------- Doesn't have, clean out frequency seems to depend on brand of pellets and draft.
Appearence------------------3 side for good viewing of fire. But that also means frequent glass cleaning.
Dealer support--------------From where I got mine, don't count on it. But other dealers and Napoleon will respond.
Cost--------------------------Low cost for the heating capacity.
Idiot proof------------------- is all 1,2,3 and leave it alone.
would be better if it came with the add on hopper capacity. So much easier to refill

She can run it but won't clean it.

Have a new Osburn 45 and have been very pleased with it. Has been in lower teens every night and it has kept the house (large cape) at 64 at night set on medium. (6 degrees warmer than we kept it with oil.)
Can crank it up during the day.
With somewhat of an open stairwell the upstairs stays same temp (or warmer) as downstairs.
Couldn't ask for more than that. Unlike most of the posters around here, we expected a space heater and are finding it heating more than we expected.

Has LOTS of glass to clean and is noisy but it is a larger stove which is keeping up with the cold so can't complain.

I also have an Osburn 45mf. It is an excellant heater, it was very easy to install and get running (almost plug and go) and is very simple to operate. However, I think it is quite noisy, especially since I have it in my livingroom where the TV is. It also dirties the glass very quickly - within a half of a bag of pellets. I am also disappointed in my dealer or Osburn because I orderd the gold trim kits when I bought the stove in July and still haven't recieved them.
