First burn --- questions.... Englander 30-NC

So -- I got the hearth done, the Duravent chimney installed adn the Englander 30-nc hooked up. I started my first fire and it's burning well... I have the yucky smell from the paint on the stove which I expected.

My questioin is -- for my first burn.... how long should I let her go? Also -- I'm using the duravent DVL (double wall) stove pipe. I want to make sure I dont' over fire anything --- so.... should I use a flue temp thermometer, and if so -- what temps should I expect on the pipe using the double wall stove pipe? Or, should I just put the thermometer on the top fo the stove itself -- and again -- what temps should I be looking for?

Until spring. Steel stoves don't need the series of progressive break-in burns like the ones made out of rocks or old engine blocks.

I run mine between 500 and 600 degrees measured in the center of the lower step.

Okay -- if I don't need to do a series of burn-in's..... how long until I should expect it to be before the smell goes away.... (paint smell)?

500-600 on the top of the stove... got it... going to find the thermometer now.... (wife moved it.... you know how that goes!)

My Englander's smell burned up after two fires for the most part. That first fire was NASTY stinky though! The second one smelled, but not nearly as strong.

Cool --- if it takes two firest that aint' too bad.... I'll burn it for 5-6 hours tonight in a room ceiled from the rest of the house with windows open. Then do it again tomorrow...... Hopefully then I'll be able to open the room up to heat the rest of the house after that...

Wife will be happy..... I'll take some pictures of the entire install.... came out pretty darn good for a rookie!

I don't know about anyone else here but I notice a huge difference in stovetop temps depending on whether the fan is on or not and what speed it is running at. Before I got the fan it would regularly reach 700 degrees now it absolutely struggles to get to 500 with the fan on high all the time, but this is what works the best to move the air up the stairs for me.

Don't ask about the stink. My pancreas still hurts to think about it. Ive had over 20 fires in it and it still stinks every time I build a fire. Then again I also put new stove pipe in at the same time and it could very well be the culprit. Its been a few days and I'm itching to fire that hog up and smell it burn.

Man you are gonna love your stove...I got the same one and the stink is all gone unless I have a temperature explosion over 650 degrees...then I get a little stink...I've been using mine two months and it heats my ranch.

Congrats!

Mine stunk really bad for the first 2 days..............Wow did it stink.

My best friend just installed his 30 last week and he had 5 small fires outside.
His still stunk for about 4 hours once he had it installed & burning inside.
