So how much wood have you used so far in the FALL of 2008??

Ive burned about 1.5 cords, maybe a little more. Burning a mixture of hardwood - sasafrass, birch, walnut, maple, a little locust and oak too. Heating almost 3700+ sq ft with 100% wood heat. Averaging indoor temps in the low 70's.

At least 2 to 21/2 cord or 7.4418604 face cords. Just for you LLigetfa. ;-) We are still waiting for summer of 2008 to arrive.

i've gone through about 1.5 chords... mostly hardwoods...

i'll run out of wood around February.... atleast i know i need more like 6 chords next year vs the 3.5-4 i got this yr.

Burned about 3/4 of a cord. Mostly elm and maple. Just bought my house in may of 08 so this is my first winter here. So i wasnt sure how much I needed to heat this 2400 sq ft. monster. Cut and split about 10 cords hoping to have 2-3 cords left. So far it seems I may have a little more left. We'll see how the winter shapes up.

About 1/3 cord so far, mostly poplar. Waiting for it to get cold so I can fire up the hardwoods.

about 3/4 of a face - 18 inch face to be exact. If it were the usual poplar, I wouldn't care. But it's been so unseasonably cold that I've had to dip into the hardwoods to get overnite burns.

I have burnt about 1 1/2 cord this year. About 3/4 was older pine and some 3 y/o stuff that was going punky on me. We have had a few weeks of sub freezing temps and every night has been in the 20s for the past month. MY FURNACE HAS NOT KICKED ON ONCE I don't think that I will have to use the furnace at all this winter unless I go out of town or something. I expect to use 6-7 cord this year between the 2 stoves.

I've burned a couple face cord, mostly poplar and silver maple left from last year. The old boiler only gets exercise when the second floor falls below 55 to keep the plumbing from freezing. Kenny is right, around here people say cord but mean face cord, and all prices are definately per face cord.

One and a half cord, mostly cherry with some hard maple and ash mixed in. Shooting for a 6 cord season.

I agree with Kenny, "it's a regional thing". In michigan when you talk firewood it's all face cords. SO far i ahve burned 5 face cords of hardwood, mostly oak and maple. OR 1 1/2 cords! looks like at least a 22 face cord or 7 1/2 cord winter. Finally got ahead on wood, now need to build another wood shed to hold it. HAPPY BURNING!

in MA the only way you can sell wood is by the cubic foot. too many people were getting ripped off by getting a thrown cord or a truckload or a face cord

Burned about 2/3 of a cord, red oak, maple, and other assorted in jotul 550c burning 24/7. Also a VC vigilant sometimes.

Just under a cord burned so far. Junky punky mixed in the fall burns but now into the hard woods. In Vermont, face cord is not a legal measure of wood, cord measurement only and the seller must supply receipt stating the amount delivered.

So, what's a "bush cord"? Is a cord in the hand worth two in the bush?

maybe 1/3 a cord of ash and oak for me but i got a late start and only started burning amonth ago

Oslo has been through almost a cord of maple and birch. Only tapped into the oil for three days while I sanded the room to prep for painting.

1/2 to 2/3 cord of seasoned hardwood, in my insert in the living room fireplace. Heats the first level of the apartment building when a fire is in it, easily. Plus the tenant in the apartment above the living room laughs about the warm floor and radiant heat. Usually 75 degrees in there with the heat set on 68. The girl in the back apartment that occupies the area in the "peak" of the house has a nice warm chimney to snuggle up to beside her bed... and it's usually 75 there with the heat on 68, after a few days of burning 24/7 or close to it.

Boiler doesn't run much when the beast is burning... hoping to get to not at all after tomorrow when the contractor finishes dressing and wiring the wood/coal add on...

Not really sure as we keep bringing in wood we just brought home or cut (we got a really dead tree that fell over in a storm from a neighbor recently). So we haven't been taking out of our piles very much yet. Probably half a cord only, it was a fairly warm fall. Last year I measured all the woodpiles and calculated cords and was very worried about running out of dry split stuff. We had about 8 cords, two of them green, two of them dry but not split, and 4 ready to go. Kept splitting all winter and didn't run out of wood, had more left than I expected. We have even more this year so I haven't measured and don't feel much concern. Some of the neighbors think we are weird for sure with all the woodpiles. We have maybe 10 cords of wood in our yard. People know we get free junk wood so we aren't too worried about thieves. Who would steal box elder and willow? We have a little cherry, apple, locust, and mulberry and such for really cold nights.
