I have a Mt Vernon AE stove and was wondering what settings you use on your stove, Automatic or Manual. I have been flip flopping back and forth between the two and still cant figure out which works best. Here what I have found out so far.

Automatic – Runs continual around the clock and always keeps the temperature settings about 2-3’ below what I am setting it for. I guess this is just to keep the stove warm and going all the time.

Manual – Stove comes on warms up to the desired temperature then shuts down again. The only drawback is that the stove is continually shutting down and then starting back up.

What are your thoughts?
 
continually starting and stopping wastes fuel and the igniter. I have same stove. Run on auto and set the temp 2-3 deg higher than what I want room to be and it holds the temp perfectly and runs longer and heats more evenly.
 
Wish my 5 year old Mt Vernon had the automatic settings....Stove is always on and off. Only time it runs all the time is when it's 20 degrees and below.

Turn it to a lower setting. The idea with those is to use the lowest setting that will raise the temp in the house
 
I installed a new MT Vernon this year. Originally started out using only manual, but figured out that made sense for me only when it wasn't that cold out (meaning Heat output on Low is more than enough). Once we had our first cold day, I found automatic to be much nicer. It maintains a nice even temperature on AUTO. Manual either causes the unit to cycle more frequently or requires me to make changes to the output level myself.
 
Is there an update to the older Mt Vernon stoves to get the auto/manual setting?
 
Yes Baston there are upgrades but seeing your stove is four years old am wondering if they would work for you. My stove was made in 2007, purchased this year in August and both control board and thermostat have been updated according to the newest technology. My stove seems to run better after the upgrades but I believe if they hadn't been covered under warranty they would've been costly. Just my 2 cents but it probably wouldn't hurt to talk to a dealer about the newer things Quad has to offer.

No. Sorry. Completely different stove. The Mt Vernon AE shares no internal components weth the older Mt Vernon.
 
I set mine on manual MH and program different temps for different times of the day. Even on automatic it still auto cleans every few hours. I am going to give auto another try to see if it burns better and see how many pellets I goes through.
