I see a moth flying around the house every so often and I saw a wood roach jump off a log as I was throwing it in the fire the other night. I try to look closely for the wolf spiders when I bring the wood into the house though. The wife freaks when she sees them. That's only because they will get under your blankets and bite you while you sleep.

curious spiders is about all i ever see creeping out of my wood ,big brown hairy terrifying ones lol

I get snakes in my woodpile in summer. They like to molt their skins in it. They freak out my wife and she uses it as an excuse not to have anything to do with the woodpile.

In winter I have mice making nests in the woodpile but they don't come in the house with the wood.

I wouldn't worry about termites...if they are in your firewood, their colony is in the ground near woodpile...if they can't get back to the colony with their belly full of wood while maintaining high moisture level....they die quickly. The firewood termites aren't gonna wander down the hall to chew on wall studs.

I remove all the bark on my firewood before I stack it so bugs are at a minimum in the house. You'll still get the odd ladybug or moth and the rare bee. Nothing wrong with the signs of summer in the dead of winter!. I don't think i've seen a termite though.

ok. most of the wood has been sitting for a couple years in the lowland woods some half soaked at times and i labored all of it this year so i know alot of it has bugs.... i guess i was worried most about the termites. barely big enough to be seen with the naked eye and lots of pin holes in the wood... i assume these are termites. i didn't know if they'd get out and search for wood in the house and breed and stuff. last year i stacked all my wood about a cord at a time in the basement. i have a room with concrete walls and floor which should help me too. this year so far after seeing all the bugs this summer i've just carried it in by the wheel barrel and used only that much at a time (walk out basement) secondly im now worried about the wolf spiders, those things are scary! killed two the size of my 2 years olds hand and now realize they probably came in with the wood. 'll have to get a system going to eliminate that right away! thanks. matt.

Some people use this large pot with lid to contain the nasties.

I am trying to use up some logs that have been on the ground for nearly four years. If it wasn't for the insects, I doubt there would be any btu value at all!

ROFLMAO!

The wife thinks I'm losing it.

This is kinda comical. Just brought some more wood inside in my plastic tote.

And the CATS jumped on it right away. They were rooting thru it like there was no tomorrow.

Having said that, most of the time they don`t bother. Just that this time there happened to be a few wasps being awakened by the nice heat source. I knew that there was some nesting in the wood rows cause I saw evidence of that during late summer.

Anyway, you need some cats, they capture and kill and sometimes eat every bug in sight.

Yes, this is coming from a guy--that up until 10 years ago, wouldn`t let a cat set foot on the property--let alone become house cats :shut:

Well, what can I say?? Once you have them--they kinda grow on you.
