Hey guys,

I've been burning my Encore 2190 for about a week now and though it's working well to heat the house, the operation is a little different than I expected so I'd like to compare it with a more "seasoned" user's experiences.

First off, I've been watching the secondary air intake and while I replaced the secondary thermostat, the air cover rarely moves...when the stove's cool, it's slightly open but once it heats up it's closed and I've not seen it open at all at any temp. Does this seem normal?

Next is the griddle temp...I've been activating the cat once I have a good base of coals, usually when the griddle temp's over 500. Once I get the thing loaded up and rolling, the temp usually stays between 550-650 with the primary air closed all the way down. When I really load it up, the temp can get up to 750 with the primary air closed. My first thought is that I'm getting air from a gasket somewhere, but I did the incense test and it dosen't really look like it's getting sucked in anywhere. I'm replacing the ash pan gasket and griddle gasket tonight in a process of elimination.

One of the only things I didn't replace in the rebuild is the primary thermostat (I'm sure some of you will remember my trying to decide weather or not to replace it) does this sound like a primary thermostat problem? I can hear the primary air shutter opening and closing when I adjust the air control lever.

Lastly, I'm using only a griddle thermometer as my chimney connector pipe is double walled...should I be measuring my flue temp with the double wall pipe or is that not accurate?

Thanks guys,

Matt

I thought I should add that when I have the cat engaged, and the air closed down, my "fire" is really just a glowing bed of coals with a few small flames here and there...the heat's still up, in fact last time it got up to 750, there was little or no flame at all. When I disengage the cat and open the air shutter, the fire immediately springs to life and starts roaring.
