Ticking noise when stove is warming up - normal?

Perfectly normal. You will hear the "ticking noise" on warm up as well as rapid cool down. It is merely the cast iron and steel expanding and contracting.

yep, just like your car exhaust does on a cold day when you shut the motor down!

yup...nothing going on that isn't normal. You'll get use to it.

It means you have 15 seconds to defuse it. Don't cut the red wire.

Sometimes my shop stove gets to ticking a bunch when it's heating up fast. I figure that it's more the stovepipe than the stove itself. No big deal, it'll figure itself out...but if it bugs me, I just take a rubber mallet and give the stovetop a quick smack near the flue collar and that seems to just help the system get over the fact that I'm, once again, putting it through a significant thermal transient. I'll start up my Lopi insert in a cold house, and let it burn for about 20-30 minutes before I hear the clicking....... and THAT'S when I know the blower is going to come on and warm the house. The clicking always starts at around 400 degrees and the blower comes on around 450-500.

Happens every time with my Napoleon. I've actually gotten to the point when I can tell the difference between the stove pipe ticking, the stove ticking (not so much) and the thermometer, which ticks when the temperature goes up. That way I can watch TV and monitor the stove while the air is open.

I have a Regency I2400 and hear the same noises when the stove starts to heat up. This is normal. From the Regency manual:

Some cracking and popping noises may be experienced during the heating up process. These noises will be minimal when your unit
reaches temperature.

I think the Harley stoves come standard with a piece of cardboard to put under it so it doesn't stain the floor

Not a normal start up without the noise.
What gets me is the cathedral ceiling carsiding snaping and cracking

Was talking to Australian/Kiwi EOD guys a couple weeks ago and one said the manual says "If in doubt, cut the red wire... (next page) under no circumstances"

Kills me

If I get a really hot fire going, the stove with tick tick tick. Then, I can hear the liner making that same noise, and then a THUD.
