OK, another newb question but you guys are always so helpful I've got to ask. I've got a P68 that I've been running for close to a week now. When I get it going the sides and top of the stove get so hot you can't even touch it. I've talked to a few other people at work that have other brands and they say the outside of their stoves are cool to the touch. I don't know anyone else with a P68 to compare the heat to so I figured I'd ask here. Is this normal for the P68?? I have it far enough away from my walls, I was just curious if this is normal for the P68 and Harman stoves in general.

Thanks.

Not for sure...But I think the P-68 (Looking at the weight of the P-68 290 lbs) is a steel stove and some others are cast iron.

I know that the P-61A (245 lbs) gets really hot and the XXV does not (375 lbs).

I maybe wrong though...just a guess

My P68 gets hot as well on the sides and the top. I look at it as a plus because it is radiating like a wood stove.

Im gonna guess normal as well. The P68 requires 20" of clearance on the sides to combustables. My P38 requires 10 and it gets toasty.

My p68 that i just got installed gets hot on the sides and top. This is normal and the manual has clearances that give evidence of this heat radiation. Just be sure to keep combustibles at the proper clearances. The positive is it does radiate much more heat that way. It really works great at pumping out a lot of heat. I feel like i am in a sauna.

I too have a p-68 and it also gets really hot to the touch. i love that fact, for reasons that have been stated above. the stove throws some serious heat :)
