I am building a new house and buying my first woodstove, although I have experience with same. I am considering: Morso 3610, Blaze King with big viewing window (albiet 70's looking..kind of cool and retro), Regency, Environ, Quadra-fire. Aesthetically, I dislike the big ash boxes hanging from the bottom, so thinking of a pedastal to eliminate that look.

Would love to hear comments on your experiences with these brands. Thank you.

Check the review section. You are looking at very different stoves and will have to give criteria. For instance if you are heating 24/7 and are away for long periods than the Blaze King is hard to beat.

Thank you for your response. I am new to this site. I will check reviews. I guess criteria would help: 1 level home with vaulted ceilings, 1408 sq. ft. Retired so home most of the time. Will use primarily woodstove for heat supplemented by electric zonal heat as needed. Using Bear Bricks this year in leased home as we had no dry wood. Love the Bear Bricks form Bear Mountain.

How's the wind out your way today Woodsy? We've had 86 mph gusts on the WA coast at 1pm. Locally we hit 46mph.

For a good stove with NW softwoods I'd also look at the Quadrafires and Pacific Energy stoves. They work well with softwood.

Ash box check
One bigger than you think check
Only two I could recommend.

Depends on the stove design. They can be great with stoves that have grates, but not so useful for stoves with a firebrick floor. I doubt I'll use mine much on the Alderlea.

Liberty doesn't have one, don't miss it. Century's got one in the pedestal, never use it. Shovel & bucket. To each his/her own. Rick

I absolutely love my Blaze King. The ash box in the pedastal is wonderful! I only purchase the princess model for my home, but in So. Oregon it more than does the job for my 1700 SF home. My burn times per load of wood is in the 10 -14 hour ranges depending on the wood. Mostly Pine and fir, but I have been burning some oak.
