Just got my Fireview hooked up. Still need to do some tiling and mantle work, but the install is safe the way it is.
What can I say? - its great. Only been burning a couple of days, but its clear that 10+ hour loading intervals are easy. Last night I caught a relight 16 hours after loading. Easy to use, good looking, economical with wood. Those looking for a new stove would be well served with one of these. I suspect the Blaze King cats are comparable.
Don't be scared of the cat!

I'm very pleased with my Keystone as well. Cleaned out my cat after 6 weeks and it was barely ashy.

I've experienced the same thing with my Fireview. I load it up at 4:00am before leaving for work. I get home a little before 6:00pm and still have enough coals for it to fire right back up! Within those 14 hours, I would say the stove puts out enough usable heat for about 9 of it. Then it really starts to cool down. When I get home at 6:00pm, the stove top is below catalytic range of 250F. During the day, it usually hovers around 475 with the air damper a little below one.

I checked my Cat last night and it hardly had any dust on it. I vaccumed it out anyway for safe measure.

I'm using a little more wood than I would like because its really not seasoned enough. Therefore, I have to char it good to extract most of the moisture before I engage the cat. I wait till any sizzling I hear stops and then flip the lever. I know my wood is not soaking wet because it probably would have cracked the cat already. Its probably a few months from a true seasoning. I'll be more prepared next season. Then the Fireview should be even better!

The only problem I'm having is getting heat upstairs to the bedrooms and into the kids playroom downstairs. But that's a question for another thread which I'll probably start today. ;)

Sounds like more satisfied customers! And to think that there are folks out there that shy away just because it has a cat.! We almost did the same thing ourselves, but boy are ever happy we saw the light!

Using less wood? We certainly are. We'll have more of a handle on it after this year (2 years to compare) but it appears from 40% - 50% less wood used and more heat! We stay much warmer with this stove.

And I almost bought a Hearthstone stove, but the dealer here was not one for me to spend my money at, read the reviews of the Fireview, and that is what I have. Burn almost 4 weeks, still learning. Woodstock customer service is as everyone says, it is top notch. Stove is great, but I have found serious problems with the lack of insulation in my house. Working on that problem.

Is there any way to get one that the stones aren't so high contrast? Like a nice cast-iron black fireview with charcoal-colored stones? That's my only issue with them.

Congrats on the stove Rick. You will love it! Before I bought mine I was also scared of the cat and started off with some issues due to wet wood and too strong a draft, but with Woodstock's help and free cat replacement everything works great now. I'm still waiting for Woodstock to come out with a larger stove like a 3cu ft firebox.

Call them, I think they do have an option for special stone?

Talked to woodstock a couple of weeks ago about a larger stove, I was told that for every person that asks for a larger stove three people purchase the current sizes. Bottom line from what I gather is that they are thinking about it, but do not look for one anytime soon. Also, they are working on making the current model more "green"...more efficient. Not sure if a more efficient stove will make up for the size of it. The rep did state that there will not be a larger firebox.

That's a weak answer. So they're saying that for every three of their customers, one more gets hosed because they don't have a larger stove. So if we assume that they lost that one hosed customer then we can assume that by adding one stove to their lineup that they can realize a 30% increase in sales? One in four is strong support for a larger stove IMO. Maybe they would rather stay small.

When/if they do come out with the 3 CF stove I sure hope they have a top exit flue for much closer rear clearances.

a 3.4 cu. ft cat soapstone stove..... mmmmm.

You did an excellent job on the install ! The secondary flames were really cool ! How warm is this baby keeping you, is there an optional blower for heat output ?

Highbeam,

From a business perspective I agree with you, at least they are thinking about it. If more and more people keep inquiring about a larger stove maybe we'll see one soon.

They told me more people are asking for a smaller fireplace hearth stove than larger stoves. I agree there would be a good market for a larger stove. They could expand and build a plant right here in WIS and give me a job. :cheese:

I don't see how they could make the Fireview any more efficient, they told me it tested at an independent lab as high as 80%! How high can you go til there isn't enough heat going up the flue to maintain draft?

Maybe I should scale back on the size of the house that I will purchase next year so that I can efficiently heat it with the Fireview! Seriously, since I'm purchasing a bigger house next year it would be nice to have a bigger stove, but the fireview should do an adequate job heating a tight house.
