Problem with Lopi Leyden auger

Hi all,
I recently purchased a new Lopi Leyden pellet stove. Today the stove began dumping a large amount of pellets into the burnpot which results in the flame growing out of control. I have also noticed that the auger turns non stop. Even when the auger light is off it turns. When the toggle switch is placed on OFF it still turns. Does this sound like a fried control panel?
 
I will be contacting the dealer tomorrow to see what they think. I'm thinking the control panel is fried. Any thoughts?
 
1st thing is check your trouble shooting guide in the manual. 2nd, unplug the stove and let it sit 2-3 min and plug it in, try again. Unplugging a pellet stove is like re-booting a computer. Check to make sure your outlet has the proper polarity, testers are fairly cheap and should be available at most hardware stores. Not impossible for control board to fry, but not that common on travis products. If you have the stove on a thermostat, change to manual setting and see if that helps. Definately want to contact your dealer, but a few ideas that are worth trying.
 
I tried the unplugging trick as well as the empty the hopper to force the computer into an auger fault. Nothing worked.

why don't you shoot off a PM to Rod (Hearthtools). He is pretty good with Travis products, as he sells and services them....nice guy too.

For what it's worth, I checked w/ a couple of guys that work on Travis & other pellet stoves. They all agreed the control board is what they would look at first.
 
Ok so here is the scoop. I contacted the dealer & they agreed it was probably the board. I inquired if it was worth my time to pull the board to reset it & try again. I pulled the panel, set it on the floor & plugged the stove in JUST to make sure everything was dead. Well the auger started turning spitting out pellets...with no panel in. According to the dealer & Travis Industries this ALMOST never happens. SO....the saga continues

I think you might have a haunted pellet stove :ahhh:
 
would highly recommend checking the polarity in the outlet you have the stove plugged into. . .

Nah, it's just got an upset hopper, and needs to upchuck some bad pellets it ate :sick: . Now if it did that while it was unplugged, THEN I'd say it was haunted :snake:
 
Someone may have wired the plug your stove is plugged into with the wrong polarity.
Take an extension cord and try several other outlets to see if the symptom changes.

I don't think it's polarity, but it's easy enough to eliminate.

As for the auger turning with the board out, I really don't see the value of the test. Who knows what the electronics of the stove look like if the control board is out? The whole circuit that drives the auger is missing...so I don't see where any indication you get is in any way helpful to determining what the fault is.

That being said, these stoves are fairly simple. If the fuses are good, and the stove's not doing what it should, then chances are it's the control board.

Jim my friend you get the gold star. The room my stove is in is currently being refinished. I recently plugged the stove into a usually unoccupied outlet while we finished some sheetrock work in the area of the stove. As I have just discovered that old plug is wired in backwards. Now that the outlet has fixed the stove is running as usual. While I'm sure this particular issue is not that common for my dealer or Travis Industries, it is certainly a good troubleshooting point for a very specific problem. I will be sure to let them know.
