I have a Regency F2400 that is ten years old. The only part that was replaced under warranty was the glass, my ex accidently shut the door with a piece of wood hanging out and cracked it.

I have recently ordered an extra set (3) air wash stainless tubes @60 bucks each (ouch) and two extra sets of baffles, the old clay ones disintegrated last year. The new ones are vermiculite, which is much more durable.

And I am about to get and extra pieces of glass, which will be another $100 bucks (all quotes CDN$)

Am I nuts?

My reasoning is that with the economy the way it is, either Regency goes out of business, or they stop making that stove, or change it's dimenions somewhat (which they already have for that model) or the price of everything goes through the roof in the next xxx years, depending when the tubes go...

Just thoughts from everyone on this issue would be great

I don't think I would worry about the glass any good glass shop can get/cut some for ya and glass isn't really a wear out item.

Kiln supply companies sell the insulation board and any glass shop can cut ya a piece of Neoceram. That is really pricey for the tubes. ESW gets $29 apiece for the ones for my 30-NC. They also include a diagram of the angles of the holes for each tube in the manual so in a pinch I can buy some tubing and fire up the drill press that sits doing nothing in my garage for 20 years.

Of course if I could ever con Mike into selling me a stove returned used by one of the box stores I would just buy a whole spare stove. What is one more in the collection?

Yes, that is $60 cdn, and I live on and island so stuff typically is more expensive. I am in the I.T industry and my skill sets are rather 'soft'. Although I do cull about three cord a year off my land with my 42cc Sthil, and at 45 I can still split by hand ;)

Oh geez, I hope I don't need to keep a parts stash for the stove.

It is bad enough having 3 Rovers in the family. I have a box of stuff from UPS for various car projects, an Atlantic British catalog on my desk now, and a shop full of hay bailer and mower parts. Even my wife's camera came with a bag full of parts. I don't know where I could even put the Lopi parts list at.

No, I don't want to have any stove parts to keep track of.

I'm considering buying a spare baffle to have on hand. The part is pretty cheap and is a "soft" part in the firebox. I've already dinged it a few times. Hard items like SS burn tubes aren't something I would keep on hand. Just seems a bit overboard for something that shouldn't need replacing, is durable, and could be made locally if in a pinch.

I mean cripes, maybe you should buy a spare steering wheel for your car. You know that they change models and new cars don't have the same wheel.

Another idea brother bart would be to get your second stove and install it. next to your other 30. Then you can use them both 1/2 time and reduce the wear and tare. When it got really cold you could fire them up and create a small black hole.

I understand completely. Being snowed in I have to keep a lot of spare parts. When I bought the T6 the vendor was surprised that I wanted so many extras. What I have found is you can get a good deal [1/2 price] on spare parts when you buy the unit. If you wait for later you will be paying full list. So I got a full box of fire brick, door ceramic and lots of gaskets. I did not get a baffle as they are guaranteed for life and even if it failed in some way I could still heat with the stove. If something goes wrong here I am screwed until next May.
I do have a backup as I could move the old smoke dragon back in but that would be a pita.
