Prevention is also a good idea - don't stick fingers in splitter... %-P

One thing to avoid is kiln dried lumber. One day of carpenteering in the winter and my hands are gone. Also, take very short showers, and NEVER wash dishes by hand. Use heavy duty rubber gloves if need be.

I use a product called Badger Balm (not bag balm) and have had excellent results. Cracks usually heal within a day or two. Yes, it is greasy and will take a little while to dry on hands but the results are worth it.

Go to your pharmacy and ask for flexible cullodian. It is an arylic compound that really works to glue them cracks . I have used it for years now

Bag Balm.

One at home (or 2), one at work, one in the main vehicle.

Pull off a glove to unsnap a gate on 0* weather, right thumb is always a mess.

Bag Balm.

Religiously.

we use Cure'l ultra healing used to be healing hands. it works very well for us and can be bought at Wal*Mart. It is about 8 or 9 dollars for a large (25 oz) bottle. I do not have cracked hands and I do not wear gloves.
bag balm does work but it is GREASY stuff like a mix of petroleum jelly and vapor rub in 1.

I do allot of ice fishing and my hands are always wet and frozen for most of the day. I use Corn Huskers lotion and put a pair of thin white cotton gloves on before I go to bed.

Works great for me and if I get nasty and painfull splits, usually the sides of my thumbs, I dunk them in a shot glass of peroxide and dance around the bathroom while it burns and until the burning and bubbeling stops. Then I dry then completely and use Locktite super glue to close the splits.

Stay away from chemicles such as mineral spirits and paint thinners and do not use those alcohol based hand sanitizers unless you use a moisturizer right after.

I'll have to try the superglue. Have 3 nasty splits
on each thumb right now. :vampire:
