This wound up taking a couple months to complete. Don't have the before pictures, but it was a run of the mill builder's grade brick fireplace with a brick hearth and a very unimpressive mantle made of 1x and 1/4" Luan. The previous owners painted the brick white to make sure it all blended together into one nice blob of white.

All new tile,
New stove insert - Drolet
Mantle is just a colection of built up mouldings from Lowe's & Depot.
Wired in the two wall sconces and modified them to work off of pull chains (since I didn't have switched power)

Thanks for looking!

Great job!!! Love how the dark mantel frames your fireplace. In your next picture, show some big flames... :cheese:

I can add a picture w/ flames! (What was I thinking?)

Black paint for the mantle was the wife's suggestion. Doesn't come through all that great in the pictures, but it really makes the tiles which are very neutral in color "pop" -- before I built the mantle, they were really bland looking and just blended into the wall.

Good stuff David.....love that mantel.

looks great~

Very good work on the install. That's a beautiful mantel and insert and a very, very lovely room. Enjoy the warmth and ambiance of your new insert. If it wasn't already, I bet that becomes the favorite room in the house.
