I have an opportunity to get 3/4 of a cord (96cuft...500-600 pieces?) kiln dried firewood. Its about 95% Red/White oak with some hickory and cherry mixed in. It comes in 17" splits. Im thinking bout getting it because I have run out of my seasoned wood (which was a small supply) and don't want risk my luck this time of year buying good "quality" seasoned wood.
Asking price is $210 delivered. You folks think this is fair?

I would buy 210$ worth of oil myself.
 
That price doesn't seem outrageous but with oil so cheap right now you may want to see if you are really saving that much, plus simply dialing in the thermostat is much easier than handling all of that wood.
 
I don't know how competitive the price is, but that's some high quality wood. That works out to over $260 per cord and is almost on par with oil at $2/gal (you'd be saving a little, but not much). If you cant get the wood any cheaper, I'd agree with the other guys and say stick with burning cheap and easy oil.
 
Sounds rather high to me Mike. Face cords here go for 45 now down from 60 in the fall. Just so you know it takes 3 FC's to make a cord...but you have to compete with what the market will bear in your area.
 
Mike i'd call a few other places that deal in scarp lumber pieces here in Md. Some even give them away . I no the cost will very from different regions i think thats a high Price. I'll tell you this my neighbor burns kiln dried wood it burns great. He gets it for $ 50 bucks a truck load so i'd call around.
 
i live in pa, and I have agree on the price being high at 210, I am getting a truckload, f350 dump about the equiv of 2 pickup truck loads, roughly a cord and a half, I am getting for 150 per load. there are deals out there you just have to find them. and watch out for the supposed seasoned wood that is being split the day you pick it up, lots of that around here too.. and LOL i have been using the oil and wood mix, and keeping the stove off during the day for the most part idf we are both working and refiring for night, I like palying with the stove so it doesn't bother me to get it going each night.. and I know oil is cheap, but I liek to burn wood more, and I rather give some guy trying to make an extra buck my money instead of the oil lords of the world..LOL merry xmas to all....
 
I agree with everyone that oil is cheap now....however, I have a full oil tank and regardless of that I burn would as an alternative fuel source. I'd much rather only have to heat my water and let the furnace kick on a few times a day to warm the house a bit while im gone than use it all the time! I dont care how low the cost of oil gets, every dollar that dosnt go to those companys makes me happy!!!

As for getting kiln dried wood by the truckload for 50bucks......it aint happening here!

That is a good deal, is it kiln dried wood? Im only considering this guy because i know it will be dry, everyone in my area with "seasond" wood is selling it for about 250-300 per cord, but they all claim its wet in the ad! This guy with the kiln dried even offered to help me stack it!

Im with you on your last sentence too
 
If you don't take it and think the guy would deliver as far east as 495, PM me and I'll consider taking it. I think it is a good price for this area given what I have seen - especially if it really is kiln dried.

nope seasoned hard woods, he goes by word of mouth and not by advertising, and he sells good stuff...

I got the load from him on Xmas eve, and this guy was great, he does it for fun, he does not even have a stove hooked up right now, so it just for sale, all the wood was under a super heavy duty black tarp, and it is dry as a bone, all good hard woods a great mix of everything, apple oak, cherry locust, you name the wood it is in there.. and all burns well, I was so impressed by him and his son, that I bought the rest of there stock just short of a full truck.. and he was almost half the rpice of any of the other guys. I loaded up a f350 dump real full...for 150.00 when stacked i eneded up just shy of a cord and a quarter....
