We got up to 75 degrees here yesterday and even though it's a bit early in the season, I thought I would run a brush through the chimney.

I didn't get enough creosote out of it to bother taking a picture. I got less than 2 cups worth. Last year I cleaned in mid January and got alot more, probably a quarts worth of it.

This slab wood is very dry and I'm shocked how much of a difference that makes. Last year I thought, if I'm not making smoke I'm not dirtying up the chimney. I guess I was wrong.

I'm starting to burn some Silver Maple splits I have. They are about 8 months old. The seem to burn well and be dry, but I bet the next cleaning won't be as uneventful as this one.

We cleaned out the 6" double wall stove pipe today for the first time since it was installed last summer. It did need it, but it wasn't too bad(sorry no pics). It was somewhat easier than I thought it would be. Just ran the 6" poly brush with extension rods down from the top to the first 45. Inside we took the pipe down an into the front yard to clean it out. Finally vacuuming the inside top of the stove and done. We decided to get one of those ash vacs from woodland direct so that will make it easier in the future. So I am figuring if I clean the pipe 2-3 times a year I'll be good to go without worry.

It was almost 60 degrees here today, and I cleaned the SS liner cap and liner. The liner itself didn't need cleaning, but the cap was pretty gunked up with creosote. It was to the point that smoke would roll out of the side door when I loaded the Oslo. This is the first time I have cleaned it this season. Last season, I did it every 30 days or so whether it needed it or not.
