When brother bart recently posted the results of his experiments regarding stove top temps and followed it up by saying "taking those temps with the blower running really lowers (skews) the reading". This encouraged me to try a little experiment of my own.

Usually my temp actuated blower kicks on anywhere from a stove top reading of between 350 and 450F. And after that I couldn`t get the temp up any higher. Now when I load from a cold stove/insert--I turn the blower off and allow the temp to rise to 650F and then turn on the blower. Quite a difference in heat output!!

Just saying that it is a good idea to read and heed the advice from the experts on this forum and then "feel free to go ahead and try some experiments of your own". The results can be quite pleasing :)

Your title says it all. Lately I'm only using my blower when the secondaries are done.

oops! just noticed the insert listed in the signature. This sounds like something I will try.

i put my blower on low and a box in the other room on low creating a circle of heat this moves the air better upstairs.. on really cold nights i put the blower on med but the living room now gets up to 80 the other rooms 74 and the upstairs 74-75

I rarely ever touch the control for my blower. Just loaded, 1/2 burnt, near the end, its always on full tilt.
I do wait to turn it on when doing a cold start. But when burning truly 24/7, it never gets low enough to need to turn down.

I hear ya Hogwildz. Lots of cold starts out here on the Left Coast. Temps go up and down like a yo-yo during the winter. Enough to drive a sane person crazy. Whoops, forgot, I have already passed that point

Your selection of wood ain't the best either, that surely makes for more tending, more filling & a few more cold starts.
I am ready for spring already.

Very interestink ;-)

I've had the insert off the past few days (50-60 during the day, 35-40ish at night, thermostat off in main house). Temps are dropping tonight, so I started the beastie up when I got home from barn chores.

Left the blower off (usually it's set at midpoint) until I had a decent fire going, then "viola" and we're cruising into some nice temps

We'll be good to go when it's time to walk the puppy

Yeah I agree with sonny we have a blower on the 4300 but I'm not too keen about it. Just seems to me with the blower on you have to give the stove to much attention to keep it hot. We're use to a passive hot stove that you can load and forget about it for awhile...and that's a lot easier to do with the blower off.
