reccomendations for a good afordable moisture meter

You know most of those fancy east coast hardwoods take 1.5-2.0 years to dry so plan accordingly and skip the moisture meter.


How's that for affordable?

The man is correct...............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just say no to M² .

But no, BR, we cut in winter, burn the next. That's it: Oak, Maple, Birch, Ash; very little Spruce & Fir & Cedar.

Oh yes, all those damned firewood sellers are just waiting to screw anyone. You know they're just getting all that firewood for free, overcharging, cheating everyone by selling green wood as seasoned. We need more victims with P.A.D. ( Passive-Aggressive Disorder ).
That's it: wait to buy wood the "day before you start burning", then get kicked in the a$$. What an attitude here: yes, get the B_____ds before they get you. This is like: "kick me you S.O.B. "
Now please, don't ever think about getting firewood in advance, or scrounging, or ( please forgive me) actually HARVESTING YOUR OWN ? Gee, you mean to get out and sweat ?
Maybe, doing some real physical work. Whew.
The bill is in the mail boys and girls.
 
Guastini- I also use the 96472 from Harbor Freight though some guys on here have complained about it, I've had no problems. I don't think you have P.A.D. either. It looks like people are getting angrier but don't know the right people to take it out on or how to harness that energy constructively.

Hey Kenny, it is PAD for real. When you project that so-called anger, or "taking it out", or "harnessing" , think about why you feel so strongly about the words and projections.
It could be that it is simple: some of us have heated with wood for a long time, have extensive experience with 24/7 wood heat year after year, and find it strange that some dilettantes playing with wood heat "need" to diddle with so many unnecessary devices.
Get out, harvest, split, stack, burn---it is enjoyable most of the time to do real work producing something of value.

It seems that most on this site enjoy the peripheral parts of wood burning rather than the real process: moisture meters, Magnahelic sensors, big 60 ton splitters for a few cords of delivered logs, terminator 90 cc chain saws with 36" bars, thermocouple monitors for the flue, PC controls for flue gases, on and on.... That's fine. But try to see it from other points of view rather than play Psychiatrist. A mirror will work. Besides, it's fun to poke the righteous a little.

Have you noticed that moisture meters with their sharp prongs look a lot like tazers? Maybe they subliminally want to stick it to those firewood sellers. Hmmm.... there might be a market for a dual purpose moistazer meter.

It's "magnahelic" .....I never heard of it either until a techno detailed it here. It may be under the Darwin Awards.
 
So, it's not an obsession with magnetic stick on temp gauges? Oh dang... different disorder... then it's a pressure gauge that measures very small differentials.

OK, I really do try and stay abreast of the latest techno-lingo crap like phishing is fishing with a PH and othe F sounds spelled with a PH, but "Phobs" is a new one on me. So, I know that a key-fob is a dumb piece of plastic stuck on your key ring so you don't lose it. Is a Phob (with a PH) then some dumb thing stuck to some technology to justify the technology's existence?

And why not ? We call it "focus": do the job, no extraneous distractions, finish it well, then enjoy.
There's a gulf between the concentration on the superfluous e.g. gimmicks that add nothing, and Luddism. It takes some doing to know the difference. A dispassionate view on tasking.
