I just got done cleaning my stove, but in the process of cleaning it I managed to break the brick panel in half on the back wall of my stove. Can I still BURN? Is this a problem or do i HAVE to get a new one?? It is an Afton Bay

Here's my scoop on your problem. On the rear of my stove ( Whitfield Traditions P11) it states not to burn without firebrick in place. Mine has been broken for years and I have had no issue . I have also seen several people in this forum saying it can be done. I believe the writers in the room

The cerabrick in my St Croix is in pieces... it can be replaced with a steel fake brick or left out... not sure about your stove.

I have a st criox prescott and shattered the brick last season(really my only complaint about the stove). I contacted st croix and was told it would work without the fake brick and have run about 3 ton of pellets without it since. I will not buy the brick because I will only shatter it again. I heard rumor of a metal brick insert, but with multiple inquirys cannot find out if it is made or who sells it? anyone hear about it?

I have the same question as I just broke my brick back panel over the weekend. It lasted for over 4 years so I guess that is pretty good considering it is pretty fragile. Honestly i'm not even sure how I broke it. I looked down after pulling it out of the stove and there it was with a hairline crack. Went to pick it up to inspect...and it was in two pieces.
I know with the harman stove the fire brick is important to keep heat out of the hopper, but it does not seem like the ceramic st croix panel would be adding much value beyond asthetics.
If anyone has info on the steel back panels please share

I talked to my dealer this morning. They said that St Croix doesnt make the brick anymore and now it is a steel panel painted like bricks. I will probaly keep my broken bricks.

Both my side pieces are cracked and are so very fragile. You can burn no problem. I would think that you can buy some of this stuff and replace it yourself. Also there is a ceramic clue that can be used to repair it. I will check around.

I have a St. Croix Hastings with the same problems associated with the center back panel. I will be trying out next week materal designed for oil boiler combustion chamber that is made out of glass.
