I didn't know the state of Ohio was in the wood buisness!

On my way to work, I noticed that the trees along a state road were getting debranched. When I drove home the trees were gone, so I investigated. On my lunch break, I took my truck the the area and wouldn't you know, the state was cutting the trees along the road (under the power lines). So, I stopped and asked if I could get a load in my truck.....sorry, the trees are the states property now...said the forman.
What's up with that? I didn't know the state needed firewood. Or was this the guys way of saying ...were taking the wood for ourselves.?

More likely because of the Emerald Ash Borer quarantines. They don't want people moving firewood around although there are legal ways to do it. Ohio DNR has an EAB website if you want to see if it was in or near a quarantined county.

Yeh, I know all about the quarantines, which I abide by. But if this wood is going to be wasted by throwing it into a dump well, that's a waste. If the guy I talked to told me the state was concerned about movement between counties or even that the workers had first crack at the wood that would have been better than giving me a line that the state owns the trees (no not the property) with no idea of the states' intentions.

I'm trying to get more info from a friend of a relative etc.....that works for ODOT. I'll post if I get additional info.
