I burned Instant Heat last year and good heat, NO clinkers and not much fine dust left in the bin This yr I was short and a friend loaned me a ton and his brand was Alleghany They seemed to burn MUCH hotter and longer than my InstantHeat BUT the burn pot had to be cleaned daily as there was always a build up of what looks like charcoal. Small price as I did not burn at night, now I feel bad because I paid him back with the only thing I can find Penningtons and have not read much good about them Anyone else burn InstantHeat or Alleghany and what is your opinion?

I burned instant heat last year. They were ok I guess. Haven't burned them this year because I found better ones. I personally would take heat and dust over less heat and no dust.

Burned a ton of instantheat last season and they burned poor for me. I'm into my 3rd ton of alleghany this season and I am happy with them. Not the best I've burned, but near the top of my list

When I bought my stove in 11/07 the dealer special was $400 cash off the stove or 2 tons of pellets. I chose the pellets. There were InstantHeats. I hated them. Inconsistent length (many too long), 2%-3% fines (i.e., exploded pellets, not simple mill dust), many clinkers. The only thing I liked about InstantHeats is their bad had a handle molded into the top. It made them easy to carry.
I bought 2 ton of New England Wood Pellets to finish the season and they were much cleaner.
I tried 10-12 bags of Empire. They were similar to NEWP.
This year I went with NEWP (5 ton). Caught them on a early-bird special at $199/ton. My distributor picked them up at NEWP's Utica plant and delivered them directly to my house. They were still HOT off the mill. My garage smelled like fresh cut wood for a month after they were delivered.

First time poster here but have been lurking in the background for some time. I got five free bags of Instant Heat pellets when I bought my Harman insert in May didn't start to burn until the last part of Sept. So I can't report on them very munch, I was in the learning process and the stove was on low. I then bought 5 ton of Alleghany at the local hardwear store around the corner for $225 a ton in May, have burned close to 2 ton now and they seem to put out good heat but a lot of ash. The Accentra is no hot rod in the heat department and has a small ash pan. I have to shut down once a week to clean out the clinkers and the ash pan. Also picked up a ton of Somerest pellets at TS, they burnt good with little ash lower heat output than the Alleghanys Have 31/2 ton of Alleghany and 1 ton of Instant Heat to go.
