I put a new auger motor on my unit because the old one finally crapped out. The new motor makes a whining noise when my skytech thermostat calls for more pellets to up the temperature. Its not really loud but noticible. It doesnt make the noise when the stove is low but as soon as it goes up to high to up the temp and dumps a lot of pellets in the auger I can hear it. It sounds like when you put an electric motor under a load or stess the motor. Just wondering if its normal. Thanks

My mother's englander auger makes a noise when the fines build up around auger and we have seen dramatic improvement after cleaning out the fines. with a vacuum.
I had an auger that whined and it turned out to be rust on the auger (auger was new, rust was from sitting during storage). Changed out and it stopped.

whine could be from excessive load, i'd pull the motor off with the feed system empty and turn the auger (still installed) by hand to see if the bearing is free and not stiff. if the bearing is tight like that its overworking the motor and could lead to another motor going bad soon. i'd address this as soon as you can so you do not damage the new motor
It seems to turn freely. It only makes the noise when the stove is pouring a high ammount of pellets into the lower auger. Ill rip it apart again on monday and see if I can see anything else.

did you just get the new motor? was it from us? , here's a thought as well, switch the motors , see if the noise is present in that configuration as well. also , does the noise occur during shutdown as well as while its running?
Problem Fixed. I gave the old auger motor to my retired father who is good at and likes to tinker with stuff. He found that on the electric motor itself, the shaft was all gummed up with the original grease from when it was new. He cleaned the motor and the gears, relubed them, and the old crapped out auger motor runs like brand new again. So I took the new motor out and replaced it with the old one and the noise is gone. I also checked the auger itself to make sure it wasnt binding anywhere. To answer your question stoveguy, the new motor came with my stove when I purchased it used. The original owner thought the motor went bad so he got anoter one and that wasnt the problem so bonus for me. Its just a little more noisey than the old one. The noise in the new motor only happens when the stove is feeding a high ammount of pellets through the auger, which is making the motor work.
