And you think the requirements are the same for every stove? People like you burn their houses down. No mention of hearthpad requirements. Google mt vernon clearances. page 9 smart guy. Go back to home depot and buy another pos
For giggles, I googled mt vernon clearances and came up with nothing. So, I changed the search criteria, found the installation manual and read page 9.

Are you an angry drunk or just drunk?

Right rear distance from unit to the wall is nine inches.
Vent pipe is eight inches from wall.
No hearth pad, just a big tile floor

Yes, I looked at the Mt. Vernon manual too, and on P.9 where "Mr. Perfect" NHenergy told us all to look (well, actually he wanted ME (AKA "smart guy""...LOL) to look, and I see NOTHING mentioned about the floor having to be 2" thick.....hmmmmm that can't be. NHenergy is a DEALER, therefore is perfect, and can't make mistakes. I'm confused now.

And I think he's just an angry drunk

EDIT: I just looked at the Quadrafire website, and the picture they have of the Mt. Vernon shows it sitting on something that I'm SURE is not 2" thick.....but that can't be...Quadrafire must be wrong...NHenergy is a dealer and their always right.

I think the angry drunk has a hard time understanding words put together, especially when in a installation manual because sentences, tables, and pictures are used (maybe too much information?). On a related topic, here is an important characteristic of ceramic tile:

Fire Resistance: Due to a noncombustible composition, ceramic tiles are completely fireproof at any temperature. They work especially well around open flames, hot objects (crockery, barbecues, etc), or any other areas characterized by the high frequency of extremely high temperatures. A ceramic tiles surface will not alter, nor will they produce any toxic gases, smoke or fumes during a fire. Ceramic tiles will not burn or feed to a fire in any way. They also act as a protection for structural surfaces.

If you want to have fun, take a scrap piece of floor tile and put mapp gas torch to it. How many bottles of mapp gas does it take to burn the tile? Then, try the same with a hearth pad. If you understand my dry and subtle humor, good for you.

I just tested for heat around the stove (set on high).
The tile under the stove is actually cold
Two tiles directly in front are just warm to the touch.
I feel better now.

Also, why would 12" tile be bad?

Rickster,

did you get your stove & installation inspected yet (town inspector or Fire dept. inspector)?

macman,

Inspector is coming tomorrow.
I already obtained a building permit from him and talked to him at length, showed him pictures of my house, install specs., etc.
I think I was probably tougher on myself with the install than he is going to be.
Anyway, fingers crossed.

Few people if any would have much respect for a dealer who calls his competitor`s goods a POS , as you so blatantly did.
Your credibility is now damaged .

Not a very good first day on the site?

Eric

I just figured out what the angry drunk is confused about: he doesn't understand the meaning of the word "beneath" in the context it is used. If you read the installation instructions and consider how that word could be interpreted, you'll get a laugh.

My, My....so defensive. Yes Strangemainer, there's a hater in every crowd.

Now, let me get ready to go to Home Depot tomorrow....I just found out tonight from NHenergy that they sell Avalon Stoves!!! WooHoo!! Now I can get all my parts a mile from home....

Uh OH, Mike Holten from Englander isn't going to be happy when he finds this out! It can't be that NHenergy is wrong about that, right? I mean, he's a dealer, and we all know that dealers know everything, and they NEVER make a mistake.

And calling Englander stoves a "POS".....that's not nice.....seems to me that there are a LOT of posts on this forum for repairs to Harman & Quadrafire stoves.....oh, wait a minute again...that can't be possible!! NHenergy sells those stoves.....nope, I must be mistaken, because I'm not a dealer, therefore, i am not perfect.
macman,
that may be the single best use of sarcasm in text that I have ever read!
Dont sweat THIS pos!

Thanks for the compliment Strange.....it was actually pretty easy, since he gave me so much good material to work with. LOL

Doh!

Looks like someone is going to get the door slammed on their fingers
if they're not careful. Nothing worse than an all knowing newb with
a bad tude.

Keeping OT, the stove and install look pretty dayyum sweet to me.

congrats, Rickster!

I know that was a huge weight off my shoulders when mine passed!
Happy burning.
