I can't seem to empty the ashes out of my Quad 4300 without getting a bunch of ash/dust floating into the air. Was wondering if anybody has a method they use to get the ashes cleaned out in a cleaner fashion.
What is your method of ash removal?

Well secure all fans and blowers first. When you have a shovel full hold the bucket at 45* and kind of slide the ash off the shovel onto the bottom side of the bucket. You may find that procedure will minimize the problem but nothing is perfect.

Won't it do some damage to the vacuum if you still have some hot ashes laying around in there? Besides I don't think the misses would be very happy with me if I used her vacuum cleaner, container isn't big enough anyway? I'd consider using the shop vac if it wasn't all plastic.

Open a window. The extra air will get sucked into the stove by the draft and suck the ash dust back into the stove and like savage said, lower the shovel into the bucket and slide it out.

I have a large ash can with lid. When I am emptying the ash, i turn the vacuum on and stick the nozzle under the lid a bit. As I shovel the ash into the small opening in the can, the vacuum sucks in all the ash that goes airborn. This way the vacuum doesn't suck hot coals, and the dust doesn't go anywhere but in the vacuum. My vacuum also has a fine filter bag in it.

I have the same stove and it sure would be sweet to have the ash clean-out the step front models have. It never fails no matter how carfull and slow you slide those ashes off the scoupe into the bucket ash floats up, that stuff's lighter than air. :-/

Talking about wet towels, I drape one over my ash bucket and when I shovel out ash I cover the top while dumping the ash. Works like a charm.
