You should be doing more than just the leaf blower
trick after running 3 tons through a stove.
The exhaust and room blowers get caked with the same
crap that clogs the stove and require cleaning.
Especially the exhaust blower! Do it right the first time.
Remove both blowers and clean them thoroughly.
Good luck.

I wonder if the video should carry some sort of viewer warning: "This video contains scenes that may be offensive to some oil company executives.. ""

Zeta - I do a thorough cleaning after every tonne but I haven't done the pipe yet so I thought this time I would try the leaf blower trick. I want to see how good it works on my EF3's inards.
It's gonna be a six tonne winter here.....already -10 here tonight.

ok I confess what is the leaf blower trick.....?
teach me obi one

I used my gas blower up the cleanout tee a few days ago, man....looked like a cold diesel start up...LOL

Thorough cleaning but do you remove the blowers
and clean them? If so good on ya! If not, after
3 tons it's definitely time to yank them both.
That's all I meant.

Well I tried the blower trick and must say .....it's not gonna be the end all for me. After running it I performed my 1 ton overhal and took a few picks of what was left inside as well as a video of what came out with the blower. Pics tonight :)

Looking (cough) for ward to the pics (cough)...

Wow, I'm in Buffalo and have only gone through 75 - 80 bags so far. Stove on almost full time (quit using the smart stat to save on igniters, not using that much more fuel and the house stays at a more even temp).

I don,t get it why should these stoves and vent pipes have to be cleaned out so much after a ton of pellets,

....been adding dry laundry detergent in my englander 25 which burns pellets & coal. when i spray water on the hot glass to clean it, the detergent seems to make it work better= hoping it affects the blower blades as well.

What?????? Where did you put the detergent? Is this serious? :gulp:

it's all the answers in quotes that get confusing...
1) I have gone through 3 tons of pellets so far this year
2) it was time for my 1 ton cleaning as recommended by my dealer
3) I decided to try the leaf blower on this cleaning to perform said 1 ton major cleaning

As cleared up above I tried the leaf blower at my maintainance interval that is recommended by my dealer to keep the stove operating efficiently. Again I guess if I cleaned the stove out first then used it there may have been better results but that defeats the purpose of me using it. I guess I misunderstood the idea -thinking it would pull all loose debris away.
Anyways I got another ton in the laundry room and the stove is cleaned and purring away, which is good seeing as how it's -25 deg C. or -13 deg F. here this morning.
ya its cold up here :bug:

I just had the impression a lot of people were doing a clean out after 1 ton so I did too,
I was surprised at the amount of dust in the pipes, Not sure if I have mastered this Quote capture thing either sometimes it works sometimes not?

You got the quote thing down Pelletizer. What does your dealer recommend? I guess it's up to the owner to adjust this to his burning rate, pellets and past cleanings to determine what's needed - as you mentioned there was alot of dust so maybe it was time. ;-) cheers Res

Once a year cleaning of stove and flue system is recomended, This is my first year and "first ton" so maybe what looks like a lot of ash to me really is not? From what I saw though I would feel better with a cleanout every ton, I did turn down the low air setting in hopes to keep more fly ash out of the flue system, we shall see at the 90 to 100 bags burned mark,
I just did not think the fly ash would build up so much on the upper end of the flue, I quess that is what they make the 10' cleaning brushes for.
