I just spoke to my propane company and they offered me a price of $1.54 per gallon. Can you believe that? Last year it was double that price which is why I bought my Mt. Vernon AE stove. Should I start heating with propane and save my 3 tons of pellets for a rainy day? I paid 250.00 a ton for my pellets.

I would also suggest what will save and what you like. I know I paid double that for my last fill.

Input your prices on this calculator....the pellets are still a little cheaper, but not by much.

Yeah you are getting close to the break even with propane. Don't worry about buying the stove, propane will go back up!

Thinking that prices on LP certainly wouldn't go down in the heating season I pre-bought 800 gallons @ $2.299. :shut: 700 gallons gets me through an entire year. This is my first pellet stove and it heats my manspace (48'x26' shed). I may opt for an insert for the house next year to have a dual source set up.

I topped my 500 gal propane tank at $2.76 a gal in September $579.00 for 190 gallons. I will be saving the propane for heating hot water and the dryer. I have burned 21 bags of pellets at a cost of $4.00 a bag Temp going to 22 tonight love this stove. So far have not fired the furnace I hope I don't see that propane truck till next June.

Greetings:

If $1.54 per gallon is a "bit much", consider this one:

I just got my invoice from AMERIGAS dated 1-6-09. On 1-2-09 they came to my house and filled me up not only with 180.1 gallons of propane, but with a bill for $767.80 which pencils out to $4.20900 per gallon!! :grrr:

I'm located in the middle of the Mojave Desert, in Joshua Tree (92252) about 40 miles north of Palm Springs -- this is a very rural area populated with about 20k residents with very low to tops of low middle income levels.

And YES, it does snow in this otherwise very hot desert. Elevation here is 2750. Winter temps do drop to the mid teens.

Wow $4.20 gal I hope you have a pellet stove.
I am on my 60th bag of pellets and the heater has ran a total of 1 1/2 hours since Dec. We do use a propane fireplace in the den. Burning a bag a day now temps low 20's.
i checked the propane tank and now at 50% this time last year I would be on my second fill. I am going to check and see what propane cost tomorrow
EWT.

Got my last bill in Santa Rosa, CA for $3.99/gal. I threatened to switch companies & they placed me on a "higher usage" rate structure, which reduced the current price to $2.95/gal...and I got a refund for the difference on the last bill.

i checked going rate for propane still sitting at $2.76 a gallon and looks like I will be looking this summer for a better deal. Oil sitting at $37 a barrel
wonder if all these propane company's bought at high price and now unloading on us. Glade I bought the stove.

I'm starting to think that some of the posts regarding these propane prices that are sometimes as much as a $1.00 lower than the averages listed on the site that RMAC references are "fishtales" I have seen these posts from time to tome and when I ask for the name of the dealer there is never an answer. Where can the rest of find these spectacular deals?

Just topped my tank up here and our price was .72/iter , which works out to $2.72 a U.S. gallon. That's the lowest its been in years but now that its full we'll continue with the pellet stove @ $250 ton. And thats at the lowest propanes been in years....
