Tried a new type pellet

I bought some rocky mountain pellets at the local TSC for 5.05 a bag. They are pine made from dead pines caused by pine Beatles. They say there is millions of acres of these dead trees and they swear it is the best pellet money can buy (says so on the bag). I bought 10 bags and have found them to good dam pellets. ST they smell amazing (just like pine). ND they burn great, they don't put out as much BTU heat but close enough, leave little ash and are all uniformly sized pellets. 3rd: Thay have a dammest carrying handle right at the end of the bag and the bag is see through. 4th: I like them, they burn well, smell great, and the biggest thing is 5th: NO FINES!! NONE the bags were filled with only pellets. I did a pellet dance right in front of the wife and got a very strange look from her, oh well if i can get these pellets again i will in a heartbeat and they are using all dead pine trees makes the world a nicer place...

I saw those pellets the other day and thought about buying some. But what setting do you set your pellet stove for, I have a Quadrafire Mt. Vernon AE with different fuel settings so I guess soft wood would be the setting. I like that there were no fines but did you experience as mush fly ash as with hardwood pellets?

The only thing i did notice was a light white film on the glass that wipes right off. They are good pellets.

My St Croix has not setting for hardwood or softwood. I just ran it as i would with hardwood pellets. They burn fine but if you have any issues with them i think maybe a bit more air flow will help.

I am useing a Harmon Accentra insert. Burning fireside ultra from HD. I have found that every 3rd day I have to vacume burn pot or on the 4th day I start to lose about 3-4 degrees of heat.I just bought a ton of hammer hots and will use them soon.I hope this ebery 3-4 days of cleaning pot will at least extend to a week.

The fireside pellets your using are not the best pellets but the hammers will be better. Fine = sawdust in the bag itself, some brands have much more than others and too much sawdust (fines) can be bad for your auger. Remember to run your stove at a high setting for about 20 minutes each day it helps keep the stove running better inbetween cleanings.

Run it at max temp for a bit, i am not sure what your highest settings are but sounds good.
