MY VC Defiant 1945 is stuck in a closed position. Anyone know of this problem and how to solve it? Handle is not in the normal position and I can't get it to work properly. Thanks!

Sometimes linkage gets worn and loose, goes past and sticks... Reach in when it's cool and see if you can move it.. if not, may have to access linkage from rear or side of stove and physically move it where it needs to be. Try it a few times and see if you can determine where it's hanging up.

Hi,
The problem seems to be the rod that opens the damper has moved into a position that is not causing the damper to open.

Greg, I have a newer Defiant NC and am assuming your damper is the same. My handle/damper did the same thing to me. Looking at the handle as if it could go around in a complete circle, the handle was floating in the "upper half of a circle" instead of the lower half as it should be. I think what I did was put the handle in the spot in the upper half, where it would be if it were in the lower half and then reached in with a long stick and knocked the damper and let it fall open, when it fell, it took the handle with it and snapped it back in place on the "lower arc".

Even when I read this it sounds confusing, if it doesnt make any sense to you, shoot me a PM and I can see if I can describe it better.

dtabor,
Thanks for your advice, that is exactly my situation and your solution worked just great. I am curious, has this continued to happen with your stove? Mine is about 5yrs old and this is the first time it happened.

Greg, it happened that one time and that was my first year of operation. As you could read in my original post at that time, I was really nervous about this being a continuing problem. To date, it has not happened again.....knock on wood.......

Glad to hear that it worked for you.
