I had my mind set on buying a Drolet insert but then dropped by retailer near me and looked at a Buck Stove Model 21. Now I'm not so sure about the Drolet. I haven't actually put my hands on a Drolet but (the specs looks good) but now that I have got to check out the Buck Stove in person I'm pretty impressed. I'd be interested in any ones thoughts on this choice between inserts.

Don't know much about the Drolets, but I can tell you that Buck owners are pretty happy and proud of their stoves, old and new alike. They're a quiet company, been around awhile. My stove is thirty years old, all original except the gaskets and the thermostat which I replaced this year. Still strong as ever! Check out the stove ratings section on this site.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. We have decided to go with a Buck instead of the Drolet. I was impressed by my local dealer's honesty and their willingness to let me borrrow their cart/lift (not sure what they called it) that will allow me to maneuver the stove into its place. I briefly considered a 74 but I think it would cook us out of the living room where we generally spend time and is where the fireplace is. So, as soon as my wife and I get done teaching this semester, we are going to drop in a chimney liner and then go but a stove and some firewood.

Congrats! Do post back when you get it and let us know how it goes. This forum is also a wealth of knowledge for installations!
