The reviews say that they Accentra Insert is noisy. I am looking at that one and the Quadrafire Mt VErnon with is super quiet but the dealer advised they are a little more trouble prone.

Do owners find the Accentra very noisy? It will be in a living room near a tv set.

Thanks.

Mine is noisy but well worth it. We either turn up the volume on the tv or turn down the stove. The fans are quiet it is just the airflow that makes all the noise. I have had mine on its fifth season and works like a charm.

This is my first year with this insert. It is a little noisey ,but the heat makes up for it. We haven't been this warm for years. Grat stove

I have both stoves. The Harman is in our living room. It is an excellent stove. Very well built and runs 24/7 without any problems. The firepot needs a quick scraping each day and we empty the ash pan and vacumm once per week. The distribution fan noise is kind of loud but we just turn up the sound of the tv and have gotten use to it .
The Mt Vernon is a beast. This thing throws some heat. Very good controls with programable T-stat. The fan noise is acceptable even on normal setting. Self- cleaning fire pot works perfectly. Maintenence is slightly easier on the Quad vs. Harman.

I have the accentra insert.

it is noisy, but maintenance is fast & easy, and has burned pretty much all pellets that I have used - oversized, undersized, etc. I find it an acceptable trade-off.

> 5minutes to empty ash on Wed night
5 minutes to scrap burn pot & empty ash on Saturday night
15 min once a month to scrap heat exchanger, scrape burn pot & empty ash

1 hour 2-3x burn season for complete cleanout (clean out flue, clean distribution fan, vacuum ash from exhaust train, scrap heat exchanger, scrape burn pot & empty ash)

(yes, I did time it - the ash sets off my wife's asthma, so I need to get the work done when she is out or upstairs)

Hi
I allso have the Accentra insert. I am burning fireside ultras from HD.I find I have to clean stove at leat every 3-4th day. i LOSE 3-4 DEGREES OF HEAT IF i DONT.i WAS JUST WONDERING when you say quick scraping are you just refering to the lip where there is built up ash? You are not scraping the entire pot down to the burning embers? I am very new (3weeks new) so please I know this may sound dumb but I am trying to learn about my $5,000 investment.
I feel the pellets I am using have alot to do with it.

A good maintenance routine is key to keeping the Accentra burning hot. I scrap the burn pot once per day. Use the scraper tool and scrape out any clinkers that may have formed. This can be done while the fire is still burning. Open the door slightly and let the fire calm down. Reach in with the tool and scrape it clean down through the embers. Pull the heat exchanger plates after 1/2 ton and scrape and vac clean. Use the square brush in the exhaust tubes and vac with a small diameter hose to remove ash. I run my stoves 24/7 as primary heat.

Well, I know it is well built. Harman is pretty well known for that. Since this is going into a living room as opposed to a rec room, noise and ash is a concern. I guess it is a compromise. Thanks for all the input.

WHAT DID YOU SAY? NOSY? NO IT MINDS ITS OWN BUSINESS.

The blower sound emanates out of the bottom front air intake. I have been experimenting with filter material to deaden the sound. Next I might build a set of baffles. I turn the fan setting down when watching the TV that is 2 feet away from the stove.

the blower can be a bit noisey at times, you get used to it

Thanks. I may get used to it as I am an old man who is half deaf anyway. I am looking to buy one for my stepson and his wife, and they are young and have great hearing. Being in a more or less formal living room, the best place to put it, the noise is going to be a bigger factor. So.... while I like Harman, I may go with the Mt Vernon as it is REALLY quiet.

Thanks for all the input.

Can you give a little info on cleaning flu? Is this done from outside inside ? I am just 3 weeks into this stove. Do you have a link for brush to purchase for this?

I clean mine from inside. I pull the unit out on the service rail, stick a shop vac at the base of the exhaust collar and send a 4" brush up thru the chimney pipe. Make sure the ash is completely cool before you attempt to vaccum it up. I also have a fine filter bag in my shop vac. Rutland makes differant brushes and rods for all differant sizes depending on what you need. There are a couple of online retailers to buy from, just google it.
