got any pic's of the bark but the last 2 pic's to me looks like silver maple

Lee - I'm thinking #4 is also soft maple. Look at the width of the grain.

Edit: more specifically - spalted soft maple.

Annnnnnnnd............... I'd be willing to bet that the tree was cut off the stump when there was lots of sap in it. Prolly sometime between Jan- May.

what or why they cut it not sure but that is silver maple (not a lot of hard maple in indiana) i have atleast 7 cords of it

Would love to take another pic for you but I would need a time machine to get me back to yesterday. It burned real good last night :) If it helps any both pieces from pic 3 and 4 from original post were in the stove at the same time. The 1 from pic 4 lasted at least an hour longer before it broke down into coals.

Picture 1 in the second post looks like Norway Maple or a 1st cousin.

I don't know about northern Indiana but in my part of Indiana they are as common as silver maple. I make Maple syrup every year! Love making it too.
