I have been waiting since 1973 to use my low-tech saws when the grid goes down and can not get gasoline for the chainsaws. Actually, I have 5 two-man crosscut saws, 3 one-man saws and 3 bucksaws on hand. In addition, I have teeth setters, file gauges and etc. to keep them sharp.

The neighbor up the valley has the alternative transportation for hauling wood. He has a team of horses, four wheel wagon and a bobsled.

What is your backup?

I got a big one man saw like in your picture but I'll never use it. The last team of horses left here about five years ago. I keep thinking about getting a single but I don't want to do that either.
I'd go out and gather a little everyday because if you have a nice pile, someone will just take it.

LOL I picked up a few of those antiques for that day of reckoning too....that one man saw look in excellent shape. Never used either of them ...I just sleep easier with pioneer tools and pure non genetic seeds stashed away...not that we're ever even remotely looking forward to using them either...just say'en.

Someone one MAY try to take it...that is when a home defense system comes into play.

That's all good and macho but then you get into "what if he's faster?" and there would probably be much more than one.
Silly to try and predict.

About five years ago I had bought some tops from a local farmer friend. He had skidded them to a 4 acre pasture area where a bunch of old rusted farmed implements were parked. One was a "Nordic" saw, you know, the big sawmill wheel and a pull down bar to activate the saw. Basically a watch out for your arm/ no long sleeves kinda tool. It ran off a PTO , but from the wheel , from an old Oliver tractor . HIs grandpa has built it in the 1930s.
Now just recently I had seen one new for sale for over $1500.
I know the Mennonites still use this kinda bucking tool.

Very cool ! Just a thought though...do you have the muscle to last very long with that ? I suspect one would have to already be in very good physical condition to use that and have hands that are already calloused. I think its great that y'all wanna try ...VERY COOL !

I do not know what you are referring to "what if he's faster?" I am talking about a couple "junk yard" class dogs.

That only made a little Oly come out my nose.

Jackpine, I had to use those tools too many times in my youth and I have no desire to do it ever again.

Backwoods Savage.

Fair enough... I really do not want to use the tools either... they are there if I need them. Plus I promised my Grandfather I would take good care of them.

Are we related? My handle is Jackpine Savage, I just shortened it up on this website.

Jackpine

I doubt we are related (name is actually Cook) but who knows? I seem to run into as many inlaws as I do outlaws.

Just pulling your leg... my last name is not Savage

Bigg_Redd, You had better tell the guys here what Oly is. I lived in Alaska for 23 years so I am very familiar with Oly but I have never had it run out of my nose.

is it ok if i just burn gas
