I've just installed (well about 95% or so) my new Quadra Fire Mt. Vernon AE freestanding. I still have a couple small things to take care of (install j-trim around the penetration on the side of my home, hide the thermostat control wire, and secure the air intake hose to the back of the unit). Here is a description of my install:

Mt Vernon AE $3301 (tax incl.)
Homemade slate tile hearth pad 45"x45" $100 (approx.)
Selkirk Direct Temp vent kit and pipe $226
7.5 Tons Nature's Heat low ash premium hardwood pellets @ $207/T = $1550

I figure I'll tackle the j-trim when it gets a little warmer outside.
I'll probably just hide the thermostat wire under the baseboard heater so that I don't have to go through the walls (unless anyone has a suggestion for an easy way to do this).
The air intake is where I have a dilemma...right now my intake hose is just resting near the air intake on the stove. Obviously I would like to attach it to the stove. Quadra Fire makes a thimble (called a collar assembly) that they sell as part of their Outside Air Kit. This collar attaches to the back of the stove and provides a place to clamp the intake hose onto. Does anyone know if this collar is available separate from the OAK? Has anyone tried to fabricate one? Does anyone know another way to attach a 3" flex hose to a 2 1/4" hole? The reason I ask is because I don't need an entire OAK (because I installed the Direct Temp piping) so I would hate to waste money on a termination cap, etc. that I don't need.

Anyway, here are a couple pictures. I'll get some better pictures when the snow recedes and I can get around the outside of the house a little better. If anyone has questions or comments about my install I'll be happy to take them.

yup...i see your post. so that air intake hose you have just feeds straight into the opening on the back of the stove? the hose i have is much larger than the opening. maybe i'll cut some slits in it to reduce the diameter and force it into the hole or i'll buy a small piece of piping and fabricate some kind of adapter that my hose can clamp too.

Just like in the instuctions for the cold air kit, make 3 or 4 cuts in the 3 inch cold air pipe......then overlap the edges until it fits your inlet on your stove........then clamp it on the stove with a hose clamp.....thats what i did and its held up well

well that is where my initial problem lies...there is nothing to clamp to without the "collar" that you have to buy. i might make the cuts to reduce the hose size and then just shove the hose into the hole.

Vent looks like it does not stick out from the house far enough. But I can't really tell where the exhaust point is on that funky lookin cap.

the cap is a little funky looking. the exhaust is near the end where the cone starts to taper. outside air comes in the back (house side) of the big round housing. it looks like it doesn't stick out far enough from the house because you are picturing a 4" pipe but the diameter of that stuff is 8" so it throws off the eye without any other reference point for your eye.
