My wood stove has a pair of andirons in it which work well on keeping the wood from rolling into the door glass.The one think i dont like about them is when reloading the stove while hot!Even with gloves i have in the past got a few burn marks on my wrists,guess i should get better gloves :lol: Still waiting for the last of the burn scares to go away!Anyone else have this problem?
 
I use a pair of insulated welding gloves that cover my wrist and lower forearms, if I do it quickly I can add or rearrange splits in the stove with open flames or hot coals and not get burns.
 
I also use the welding gloves that cover most of the forearm. I have even picked up red hot coals and rearranged them quickly. I don't use them every time but when I need to do some careful arranging or rearranging then those gloves are always fireside.
 
The Quad Isle Royal has andirons that can be pivoted down for easy reloading through the front.

Yep, and that's a nice feature. My welding gloves do give off a funny smell though when I handle the andirons too long.
I always pivot them down to reload and then back up again if I'm filling the box.
 
One of my customers uses the poker to lift and tip them down.

ah, gotta love my top load.
almost never open the front doors, and when i need to, the andirons lift out... stoves to dang small nothing would fit in the front door if they didnt!

LL Bean sells great long gloves that are perfect for wood stoves. They have definitely saved my wrists a few times.
