Terrible Weather

Today was one of those glorious 40* days when we could burn hot with and open a half dozen windows at the same time...a total air swap. God bless America and death to all her enemies.

We had our big melt yesterday, everything is a skating rink! God bless the world and peace on earth.

Did the same here! We split close to 2 cords yesterday and today, then i cleaned out the chimney (very pleased to find only a few cups of creosote in the lower elbow).

Snow's comin tuesday!

We got to 38 yesterday and it looks as if that is the only thaw here until maybe next weekend. So, I went out and fell another good sized (20-22") ash this morning. Sure would be nice to cut some without all this snow though. Where I am cutting right now there is a bunch of ice under the snow. Under the ice there is about 3-4" of air. Water sit there and froze pretty solid but now the water is gone. It makes for some interesting times taking out a load of wood when the ice keeps breaking.

Last word on that snow out east is that most of the storm will be off shore.

right there with 'ya, Brother Bart. I took one of the saws I was working on, out to test cut up some wood. Also used the opportunity to really get the house up to temp in preparation for the chill. Personally, I wouldn't mind if we stayed in the 30's and 40's awhile instead of 20. I need more wood!

We hit 30 below zero just before sun-up this morning. My Castine appears very happy.
