Cheapest way to ship stove

"Cheapest" way? In the back of your pickup truck.

Might check your data banks and see if you know any truckers who come and go that way...

Other than that, there are a few shippers who would pick it up skidded and bring it to you. No idea what they charge these days though.

I work for a major freight company. I can tell you that the stove must be put on a shipping pallet with cardboard around it and banded to the pallet, or crated. Also you must have some way of getting up to the back of the truck, lifgate service is extra with all ltl carriers and it is expensive. also call around to different ltl carriers in your area (con-way, roadway ,abf ....) and shop for the best rate....they will vary. Hope this is some help.

Most all of the carriers will p/u at your door (residence). Your best bet would be to find someone who ships alot of freight at their business and ship it under their account discount from your residence and bill it third party and you pay the bill. Or tack the freight to the local trucking companies dock and ship from there.All trucking companies will supply you with the paper work.

I bought my stove online and I think freight shipping was $280.00. It is a small stove, so a larger one will be more.

As Prada said, you might want to post up some info on the stove. You may end up spending more money to have the stove shipped than it is worth.

If it were me and I had the time, I would pick it up myself. I have seen what happens to LTL freight sometimes.
That said, it will have to be packaged correctly as stated above. R+L Carriers offers "free" liftgate service and they seem to do more residential service as a result. Your options will be broader if you can deliver and pick up at the terminal or better yet, ship through someone else who does considerable business with a shipper and has negotiated discounts.
PS You might consider moving by someone other than YRCW affiliates (Yellow, Roadway, USF) as their financial situation is getting more iffy as they get closer to Feb 17. Times are hard in the freight biz.

Depends on if the stove has glass windows or not, if it does those will have to be taken off and well padded. For LTL like this your going to be looking at a chunk of change, you can get your costs down if you have your friend put it on a pallet and pad and strap it and take it to the truck station terminal, and then you pick it up at a local terminal. I just learned yesterday that Amtrak accepts freight on pallets, guy told me it only costs .57 cents a pound, not sure about that, but give them a call and ask if you have an amtrak terminal near the both of you.
