Napolean NPS 40 heating problems

good evening,

I have an NPS40, installed and approved earlier this month, have since replaced the burnpot, the temp sensor, added and OAK and am burning Hardwood Pellets from Michigan and had a couple of good days. Now however, with the room blower on 3, the pellet on 4 the air intake on 3 (have tried different combinations), my air flow temp is 125F tops. NOt sure what to look at next. Have tried inside air (disconnected the AOK) with no significant change. Flame is approx. 4-5 inches high, blue at the base, yellow on top. What next?
 
dontt be afraid of crankin it up to 4-3/4 feed when im home ill turn it up to 5 sometimes

i run usually 3 intake 4-5 feed blower @4
 
sometimes it is the pellets. some burn more hot than others. I would try to give it more air. I am running mine on 5, pellet feed on 4.5 and fan on 4. By the discription of your flame, you seem to be getting a good burn. Does the flame go right up or kind of do a hula dance? Hot fast flame usually means heat. Make sure the inside of your stove is clean. Esp. around the pipes in the top. Ash and soot reduce the transfer of heat to the heated surface of the blower pipes. I am burning Energex which I think are softwood. Moderate amount of air, but very good burn bag after bag. I am at the end of my third ton now. My daughter has the same stove, only the insert version. She burns LGs. She has to run her stove on 3 or she finds it too hot in the room. She likes about 72 degrees heating the single floor home.
 
i never thought to ck the temp on the blower, but im mixing .5 bag athens with 2 bags green team from pa and i get a nice burn (i have the hopper ext)

Did get it up to 150 today....room still has not warmed completely, but there may be an air leak around the flu pipe cut through (need to look at this in daylight). I have adjusted the air feed and pellet feed a number of times, found with the air on 4-5, the temp acutally went down (outside air temp last night in the low teens). Stove is cleanas I have only 5 or so bags since installation. the latest bag will last ~28 hours....is this average?

Meanwhile, the Fireplace is at 350, the main floor is at 71 and the better half is happy...job done!

An update.....

Basement (walkout) is staying in the 63-69 range overall....NPS40 is set on 3.5 intake and 3.5 air. Blower temp is generally around 150-160F. I b urn through 1 bag in about 30 hours(more or less). I still have the air leak around the exhaust pipe (where it goes through the outside wall mounting bracket)....I hope to get to this on the weekend ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Can I use foam or something else?

MEanwhile the woodstove is working just fine on the main floor....fired it up when I got home from work this evening...will add wood again later and let it burn through the night...start the process again tomorrow night.

I have a tube and will give it a try around the pipe at the outlet....will try and do both sides, but will need to take the inside panel off as the wall thickness (interior wall / air space/ 6"insulation/exgterior wall) is approx 14 inches.
 
how do you check air temp for your stove? i have put meat thermometer in holes where air blows out on setting of 3 and get about 170 degrees.if i crank it to 5 you can get well over 250 degrees.i am not thrilled with this stove feeling it doesnt have strong enough blower and is noisy. pellets make a big difference in heat and clunkers. now using lignetics and much happier,but i not would recommend this stove to others.seen many cheaper brands put out alot more heat.burn pot plugs up to much with ash and looses heat .
 
What is the feed rate set at? I have same stove, have feed rate at 4.5, air intake at 3.5 and blower at 4. I go through a back every 15 or so hours. I get plenty of heat output and only have to clean the burn pot every 4 days. I am using Natures Own pellets from Lowes. I have not tried any other kind yet.
 
Do you have the baffle plate installed just below the heat tubes??

I am currently burning Michigan Premium, do have the baffles installed, have cranked up the pellet flow to 4, air is at four and blower is at 4. Temp is measured with an elctronic thermometer with an exteral feed and is very accurate. My second ton of pellets is buried underneath this ton, but I should be able to get to a bag next week and will give it a try.

I plan to seal around the flu pipe this weekend, temps should be in the 40's.
 
stove doctor,what do you mean by baffle plate.? my nps40napoleon doesnt have a baffle plate,and none showing in parts book. new stove a month ago where would it be placed? i can see clearly the heat tubes.how would ash fall when you pull heat exchanger cleaner rod? also left side of stove blows out hotter than right side. have heard this from others.

I could not find the baffle part in the manual, but looking in the glass at the top, there is a band of metal about 2 inches wide that runs across the front at about a 45 degree angle, (bending back away from the glass. I can't see my heat tubes unless I lay down and look back up. I take a paint brush between these tubes about every 3ed day. What a pile of ash I get! Then I tap the baffle and get even more. I brush down the back walls, then run the vac. Whole procedure takes less than 5 min. My stove puts out good heat. I am very pleased. I had my stove installed last Aug. My hot water is on a oil fired hot water tank. We had a fill up done last April, Since that time, I have used 210 gallons of oil for supp. heat and primary for hot water. That and 3 tons of pellets, home about 2100 sq feet and consistent temp of 72-78 in all rooms. Home well insulated, but with 4 inches in the wall and 12 in the ceiling. Double glass and with storm windows. Double entry. Still have a lot to learn, but with the use of the forum, I' am making progress.
 
if that is the baffle,i do have that.i do clean heat tubes with a brush and vacuum every 3 days.
