I bucked up some pieces of a 24" Ash. I'll wait to borrow my buddies MS660 as I can't get to either side of the trunk with my 5100s now.
The game is how many med/large splits do you think I got out of one chunk. I'll post the picture later. Let's see who gets the right number.

22, but if those splits behind the splitter are considered "medium/large", all bets are off.

17. Really it would be 18, but the sum total of one split will be lost to kindling due to it breaking apart

btw I have now have this itching desire to swing the great hammer of war at that and see if I could split it

I've posted another picture at the top so people can get an idea "med/large splits"

looks like 20 hasn't been taken yet. I'll say 20.

I split small so I'll go with 24.

I'll give another vote for 24 splits (about 4" size).

I'm thinking 19

edit: what's the prize?

One of you is off by 1 split....but who is it?

If true that only one and not two people are off by one, that would have to mean there are fewer than 12 or more than 28. I cannot imagine splitting that 29 or more ways, so I'll go for 11.

It's gotta be me, I'll say 23.

WB, please recount. I'm sure you will find I am correct. <G>

I didn't think I 'd get 35 splits out of one chunk myself, so kudos to "Got Wood" for posting 36!

WB good move using the beer can for scale...I thinking that could be a wheel barrow load there. Yeah that's a lot of wood from 1 round. I should know that since I'm splitting way smaller now too.
