Breckwell Big E users - what pellets burn well with your stove?

I had pretty good luck with Hammer Hot Ones, Barefoot and Turman 100% oak.

Hammer burn nice and Hot! Low ash, Very Little fines. No clinkers

Barefoot were very close to the hammers. some fins though.

Turman Had Very good heat and very low ash, some fines, No clinkers. I could go 2-3 days before I had to scrape the pot.

Hammer Hot ones in an Agway bags is what I've been using the last four
seasons . I have been satisfied .

Lignetics works good in my stove. They look clean and consistent and burn good from what I can tell. I have not burned anything else so it is a little difficult to compare. Love the stove - never had to run it higher than 3 setting and am only into my second ton and should finish the season with a 2 ton supply.

Just curious if anyone may have had problems with lignetics(green lable-hardwood and connifer-) possibly tripping the high temp thermodisk when on heat setting 3 or higher. When the stove trips #3 flashing it goes into shutdown mode and the burnpot is clean and no visible signs of issues.The only other thing is that the burnpot is a little forward of being completely seald against the back wall. Can it move on its own to throw the #3 code?? I just switched from barefoot with which I have burned tons with not one issue and tons of new englands before that. Proud owner of My big e for 5 years now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How many tons have you burned so far?

When was the last time you gave the stove a complete cleaning?

I would clean the whole stove and remove and clean the vent pipe. Its probably dirty and you are losing air flow.

Quarter of the way through the first ton of of lignetics. Burned s little over a ton of barefoot prior to this for the season. Total cleaning prior to starting the lignetics minus a chimney sweep. Swept chimney before the season started. As far as cleaning goes I shut the stove off about every 2 or 3 days to slean the burn pot and vent tubes and the walls and so get a sweep. Every sunday I give here a pretty thourough cleaning which includes the interior chamber. Thanks Jay.
Well I just kicked it up on heat setting three to throw a little heat out and then back to two and low and behold it goes into cool down mode. I think I am gonna have a tech come look at it. I am at a loss as to why it is doing what it is doing. Blinking #3.

Went through and tested by jumping out the high temp thermo disc and found out it is the culprit. New one ordered...

Glad you figured it out. I would not run it with the over temp snap disc jumped out to long. Get a new one before you return it to service.
Jumping a safety switch for testing is ok. Running it with a safety jumped is a no no! Please be careful!

Big E owner here.

So far I've burned 1 ton of Maine Woods crappy pellets. Lots of ash and always a huge clinker every 24 hours.

But the stove never got jammed up or shut off due to the big clinker and ash. I've read that other stoves could not even burn those pelletsm without jamming and shutting off.

Now I'm halfway into a ton of Lignetics and these are much better. Much much less ash and it takes 3 days for a small clinker to form.

So I went from daily cleanings to 3 day cleanings.

I have 1.5 tons of Lignetics to go. Just about right to get us through to the warm season.

I've had enough of this winter.

Just because that stove ran longer on #3 with that snap disc jumpered doesn't always mean the problem is with the switch.

You could have an air flow issue because of ash on the exhaust side blocking normal air flow past the spot the sensor sees or a failing convection fan that is preventing the heat exchanger from extracting as much heat as it has to to keep the switch from opening or a blockage in the heat exchanger on the room air side (plugged blower fan for example).

I had a bad convection blower motor on my stove, it was thermaling off then the heat exchanger would overheat and the stove would shut down.

Just don't be surprised if the new switch doesn't solve your issue.

Thanks for all the input guys I really appreciate it. Only problem I had with the lignetics was that they burn really hot. Not a bad thing though. I never thought that the high temp thermodisc would go bad so soon. I checked pretty much evertything else and will be getting and installing the disc on tuesday or wednesday. So I will know for sure then and will post up. Cheers.
