I bought a ton of what was supposed to be Energex pellets today. But when i got them home and opened the covering the bags say premier pellets. They do not say iif they are hardwood or softwood.I called the dealer where i bought them from and questioned it but they said that they are energex in a new package I unloded them and put them in the basement but i cant help but think i got screwed.

Energex produces Juinata Premier pellets which are hardwood, but a company out of CA produces a product called Premier which is a softwood. I would look for contact info on the bag to decide.

Do they look like these???

Since jay posted his pics of the "hardwood" version, I thought I'd post the "softwood (?)" version bags (does anyone know for sure that the Canadian version IS really all softwood?).

I have burned a ton of these, and say they are great pellets. very low ash. I had just over one ash pan full after the ton. These pellets do appear to look Identical to energex, but I too would like to know more about them. I am currently burning spruce pointe, but will definately buy more premier pellets, as they are a great price.

There is are two kinds of Premier, 1 from U.S.A.( hardwood blend), 2 Canada( softwood, hardwood blend). Both from Energex.

Thanks for clearing that up for us sinbad. Much appreciated!

X2 for Sinbad. I have 2 tons of the Premier, bagged just like what Macman indicates. They also bag them as "Natures Own", similar colors on the bag, just not
as flashy. They are made in Mirabel QC Canada which is just outside of Montreal. They are a blend, they are reasonably clean, and burn pretty hot. Lowes has been
selling these in huge numbers around here this year. I heard through the grapevine that the factory is one of Energex's old plants. The plant also bags Fireside Ultra's.
I don't think you got screwed by any means. They aren't Okies or Barefoots, but are a darned good big box store pellet from my experience.

These are the ones my local TSC has been selling for $249 a ton, I haven't tried any yet.

A few weeks ago I contacted Energex Canada, do to raw material shortage the are now a mix of 50 % softwood and 50 % hardwood. In company they still call them softwood to distinguish the 2 types.

Their a decent pellet. I can't complain, they have average ash, average heat output. If the price is right, their OK.....do seem to make the glass dirty pretty fast, though.

Wish I had held out at the TSC where I bought mine....they had AWF, which I think is a good pellet, but they were "buried" in the back.....caved and took the Premiers when forklift guy started "crying".
