We were able to exchange our remaining 4 tons of athens pellets with the distributor in our area in the past week. Sad to say the "new and improved" athens pellets produce no less ash than the ones we replaced. I will say they (finally) throw more heat, we can actually heat our home now without being on the highest setting continuously....but still *several* cups of ash to be vacuumed on a daily basis - can't go longer than 24 hours. Will just have to grin and bear it for the last 4 tons and pray we can find lignetics in the Spring!

have you given the Northeast Pellets a try from Ashland Maine?having approx 10 brands to choose from on the Canadian side of the border, i'm pleased to say the Ashland Pellets are in the top 3,and i would def choose them personally over the Lignets (Hardwood) from this side of the border,they had wayyy too much ash, i'm done with Hardwood unless its my last and only choice.The Green Heat Lable(ashland-for Walmart)were by far the Cleanest pellets with minimal ash of any of the 8 to 10 brands i tried.Although after talking to my local dealer yesterday ,telling him i noticed a diff in the last batch i got(worse) he said after going to the ashland plant himself a week ago, there will be no more Green Heat-Bagged,but same pellet will now be in the Yellow/white(Northeast Branded) bags only.

Well maybe Athens got their product staightened out. I really hope so. I sure would be nice to have a Maine company succeed. My Athens are ok but the ash has been bad. I'd sure like to not have to clean the ash pot every 12 to 16 hours. I'd love to go 3 days. I can with the hammers. Atleast Athens knows there was a problem and addressed it. I'll try a few bags 1st and then be the judge.

Feeling the Heat
i bought 2 more ton of the athens pellets at christmas time and the quality of the pellets , along with the heat out put was greatly improved...the ash it still about the same . i scoop out the burnpot a couple times a day, and the ash pan has to empty weekly, but i am ok with that. i shut down every sunday and give the stove a thorough cleaning anyhow.
i know harman advertises you only have to empty the ashpan once per ton(with top shelf pellets of course), but the way i think is that if you only shut down once a month, you only clean good once a month. i dont mind once a week, i dont do anything on sunday anyhow.

I am able to go about a week before i shut down my stove for cleaning burning about 1.5 bags per day. I am using Northeast Pellets though.. very light in color, high heat and low ash.
