Anyone buy some wood lately?

2 cords of rock maple cut, split and dumped in my driveway. $370. Its good, hot burning wood, but probably 1/3 of it needs to be split down into quarters as some of them won't even fit in the stove's door.

Bought a half cord of well seasoned oak and cherry, well split, dumped in driveway for $125, yesterday.

Hey Mayhem....think your guy wants to truck out to South Hadley to drop a cord? Getting hard to find good wood out here.

the last load I had got here in Lancaster was around the beginning of the year, but it was getting scarce then to get good seasoned wood. I ran into a bunch of guys who ran out,a nd would split some that day. I prefer my seasoned wood to ahve been split for at least a few months. the going rate around here seems to run about 150-180 per cord, but af far as seasoned I am doing all my own wood from here on out.. that is how sick of the word "seasoneed" I am..LOL I know a lot of you feel my frustration...

Not yet J-Man, waiting for wood guy to call and confirm 2 grapple laods and a price.
But till then.....between My Bro-law and I .....we still have about 5 cords to split between us.

I just rcvd a cord in late Jan from a new to me wood guy. The most seasoned and dry load I've gotten all year. He had it stored covered correctly, not just laying out in a pile. $170.00 delivered. I'll probably order three cord in March (green for next yr.).

Yes I had five cords delivered for next winter and more coming for the following winters, i'm always trying to stay ahead. I get it from a unknown youngin up here who logs, holy smokes you should see this stuff. No junk, no rot, all hardwood. And its 140 cord green, but hell when i get done with it, it will go up like a wildfire. I'm just now burning the stuff i got last october, i cheat thought, you say burning green. no i have it in a heated garage so it dries fast. I'm all for the cheat factor when it comes to wood.

I just had a guy drop off about 5 cord of chestnut oak, a piece or two is red oak, and one stick of black locust.

Oh, forgot to say, it's log length stuff, I have to cut and split, and it cost me 350 U.S. dollars.

Gypsy moth killed, the lumberman told me he has 1.2 million feet to haul out, hmmmm

yup,just got this load in....and hope he can bring another 25-30.



then 'll be all set for the upcomming season.

If I had decent wood on my land though, I wouldn't be paying some guy $100 a cord to drop Black Ash in my driveway. I'd put the money toward a FEL and get my own but Poplar (Aspen) just isn't worth the effort.

Supply of logs for delivery up here is in limbo. Local OSB mill scaled back production.
Not too much cutting going on up in the hills. Convenient, abundant supply of $100/cord birch logs could become
a thing of the past! hh:

You'd think the opposite would be the case. Supplying the mills here is the "low hanging fruit" where they make the most money so firewood takes a back seat when they're busy. You'd think they'd have more time for firewood if the mill is cutting back?

Granted, sometimes, the stuff they sell as firewood is just the rejects they come across when cutting for the mills, particularly in the case of Birch. You probably wouldn't want to pay the same price for Birch the OSB plant pays. Here the OSB plant doesn't take Black Ash so the only hindrance to getting it is how busy the cutters and haulers are.

My wifes uncle has been buying wood this year as he had a heart problem and couldn't cut this year. He is paying $85 for about 1 1/4 cords of oak and hickory mix no rot and all look like very good pieces of wood. this is split and stacked as well. he has an F450 with a 9 foot flatbed and 4 foot sides and he loads it neatly stacked all the way to the top of the sides. and slightly rounded.
