For the past few years I've been doing the early spring buy
from pelletsales.com. This year it looks like I will have to get
my pellets elsewhere. Just came from their site and
they are showing a 3 ton minimum. I will have almost 2 tons
left over from this season and only have room for 2 more tons.
I'm bummed, but suppose it's time to start my search now. :eek:hh:

Yes - I noticed that.
Just curious - what did you pay (Delivered) last year on the early buy program?

Add two more layers to each of the four piles and hopefully the left over pile will be a bit lower and you can add more than two layers to it. ;-) .

$256 a ton delivered to me last year.
That was for the Cleanfire brand.

smokey I wish it were that simple but they
are already stacked as high as can go and
won't be room for more than two tons more.
And so my search has begun.

Wowee. Lotta lurkers vs. commenters eh?

Pelletsales is now saying no deliveries to northern NJ; I know, I know, northern NJ is far removed from any and all transportation hubs, pellet mills, population centers etc. Just another inconvenience we have to endure for living so far from civilization.

I think they want you to use there pool system for < 3 tons for efficiency.

http://community.pelletsales.com/

The community pellet pool system allows consumers to form groups and easily create a truckload of pellet fuel and have it delivered to a nearby drop location for pick up by that group.

The community map shows your approximate location based on your zip code. You can grab the map and drag it around with your mouse to see more area. An icon of "you" is in the center of the map. It may not be where you live, but it is the approximate location of the center of your zip code. There are three types of items you will see on the map:

Users looking to join a truck and buy pellet fuel
Trucks that have been created by users for others to join
Drop locations where full trucks of fuel are delivered

A drop location is required first in order for a truck to be created for users to join. If you don't see a drop location on the map in your area, you can easily create one (see creating a drop location below).

Let others know you need pellets

At a minimum, you can let others in your area know that you need fuel. Click option 1 on the left side of the page and fill in your information. Check the box labeled "Show me on the map", and click "save". Others can now see that you need fuel and send you messages asking you to join their truck. Even though you can see yourself in the center of the map, others cannot see you on their screen until you check the box and click save. You can take yourself off the map at anytime by un-checking the box and clicking save again.

Joining a Truck

If there is a truck in your area with enough available capacity for your needs and you agree with the original quoted price, you can join the truck. Once you click "join", you will be asked how many tons you want, and click "Join truck". Your request will be sent to the truckload coordinator for their approval. After joining the truck, you can post messages to other members of your truck group in the truck's private group forum. Once the truck is full, you will be sent an email confirming all the details of your purchase. After confirming your order, you will then select your method of payment and pay for your fuel. After everyone in the group has paid, PelletSales.com will send the truck to the drop location. You will then need to get your fuel within the timeframe and hours of operation setup by the drop location coordinator. You are responsible for loading your fuel and for providing a vehicle capable of transporting your fuel from the drop location. You are also responsible for your own safety, and the safety of your vehicle while arriving at the drop location, loading your fuel, and leaving the drop location.

Create a Truck - Become the Truck Coordinator

If there are no trucks to join that meet your needs, you can create a truck. As the truckload coordinator, you get to pick the drop location, pick the type of truck (if the drop location can take both a box trailer and a flatbed trailer), pick the brand of fuel from the available choices, and approve or deny others who request to join your truck. You will receive a small credit on your fuel order for coordinating the truck. You will also have the first chance to invite others to join your truck. Once the truck is full, you close the truck and we take care of sending the order confirmations, collecting payment, and sending the truck to the drop location. The drop location coordinator is responsible for unloading the truck. When you start a truck, we provide you and your group with a private forum for communicating amongst yourselves about the truck.

Creating a Drop Location - Become the Drop Location Coordinator

A drop location is simply a place where pellet trucks are unloaded and consumers load up their fuel to take it home. In order to have a drop location, you need space for consumers to park while they load their fuel, space for the pellet truck to be unloaded, and a loading dock if you want to be able to receive enclosed box or van type trucks. A forklift is recommended for unloading a box trailer, but is required for a flatbed trailer. If you don't have a forklift for a box trailer, you can use a pallet jack. The forklift must be rated to handle a 3000 pound load. You will also need to have someone to unload the truck. The driver doesn't unload it.

Drop location coordinators can charge a fee per truck for the use of their location. PelletSales.com will divide the fee and collect it from each of the members of the truckload group. After all the fuel is picked up at your location, PelletSales.com will pay you the fee.

You can choose to be either a temporary drop location for just one truck, or a permanent drop location. You don't have to start a truck in order to be a drop location. If you are a temporary location, only one truck will be visible on the map for others to join, and no one can start another truck at your location.

I've never used them before but did you always have to unload the product off of the truck? Suppose the rental of a pallet jack would have to be factored in amongst the group.

Nomoreopec I realize they offer that now, but it doesn't work
for me since I don't have a way to get 2 tons from the drop
location to my home. Oh well. As I said they've lost my business
now.

I live on the Cape and work in Taunton.

I would be willing to pool together with several others for next year's pellet supplies. I will probably need about 3 tons.

After all the problems people had last year with pre-pay plans.....I would only consider cash at delivery time.

I have a truck and a pallet jack.

You can continue your search too then. Cash at delivery time is not an option. See the web site for details.

Civilization isn't all it's cracked up to be and is rarely civil. That happens when animals are crowded into small spaces.

I believe I will have enough pellets left for next year so I will not have to worry about spring deals thank God.

Wowee. 71 views and only two people commented?
I do believe we got a lot of lurkers here eh? LOL

Well for a couple of Sam Adams Summer Ales I'd be happy to store your excess pellets. Of course if I got cold while enjoying said brews I just might need to try out some of your pellets (us older bears tend to be a bit arthritic and like a little heat) ;-) .

Maybe you could make a few bags into a new sofa for your living room.

Lol. All joking aside, if anyone in my general area would like
the third ton I'd be willing to order three for a March or April delivery.
Would need to arrange this soon obviously so I'm not banking
on anyone wanting to go in on it with me.
Keep in mind they require either a check or cc in advance, but
they've never charged my credit card until the pellets were in
my driveway.

South Shore Wood Pellet is not far from me so I'm considering them.

Pellet Sales right now only shows Granules LG Wood Pellets available for the early buy.

How are these??? Are they all HW or a blend?

This year I burned Lignetics Hardwood and they have been great.

Thanks!

being a loner isn't a good thing either, can you say Ted Kaczynski

I just checked the site and for delivery to Attleboro MA it is a 4.5 ton min. I started this year, my 1st, with 4 tons and still have 1.5 tons still left. The price is also the same as last July $259/ ton + delivery.

There's a difference between being a loner, living where you aren't packed in like sardines, and being a Ted Kaczynski. They ain't (pardon me all you English teachers) any where close to being the same.

Check it again. It's a 3 ton minimum same as to my town. $887.45 total for 3 tons of LG includes delivery
and processing fee.

Just checked it for my area, cleanfire has a minimum of 2.6 ton and Rocky Mtn is 2.4 minimum.
Do they weigh less than other brands?

Out here in central ma pelletsales is selling L.G'S for 234.90 a ton with a 3 ton min plus delivery.

Sounds like you got a quote for product delivered now (7-10 days).
The early buy program has a different link and they are only
showing LG pellets w/a 3 ton minimum for March and April deliveries.

When I looked before it said 4.5 minimum where it now says "Minimum quantities apply" but now you are right about the 3 ton minimum. I don't have the room for 3 tons right now so I will be waiting.... :-/

Yep- I looked again and you are right zeta, my bad...
With this new minimum though, it looks like I may not be taking advantage of their early
spring buy this year as I do not have room for 3 more ton yet.
