My first post. Got 1 ton of Appling County Pellets and with the first bag its a nightmare. We have the Thelin Parlor Stove and the pellets turn to sawdust in the auger and then won't come down the shoot. House full of smoke and can't trust the stove on. I read about the mixed review on these pellets and the waxed paper trick. I say take the ton back for a refund! Never had anything like this trouble.

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry that you are having this problem but glad to know about
it since I have the same stove and was considering buying a few bags since the local Agway
has started carrying them. Even with the bad reviews I figured it was worth a shot. The surprising
thing is that I have tried 5 or 6 brands of pellets, both good and bad, but have not had any problem
getting at least decent heat from the stove with any of them.

I puchased a ton of Appling and and have had no problems. My Harmon feeds different than a Thelin.

Greetings: I recently purchased a ton of Applings recently after burning thru the 5 tons of LG Granules I bought last summer. I first noticed their very dark, almost black color. Few fines in my bags. The bag says, "low ash" but that's certainly NOT the case. I burn 24/7 and on a high burn speed and I"ve been emptying the ashpan once a week since burning the Applings However, while they do produce a lot of ash, the heat is actually higher than the LG's I've burned all winter. Noticeably higher. Guess it's a tradeoff, extra heat for extra ash. Anyway, my P-68 Harman is chewing them right up without protest and I'll need to get another ton to see me thru Spring. BTW, they're at $275/ton locally. What gets me is that I'm in Northern Vermont, totally surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of trees and I'm buying and burning wood pellets made in Georgia. Go figure.... We really need a pellet plant in Vermont.
FB in Vt.

We burned one bag of these. ONE, and where the stove vents, the siding started turning black, and the glass was filthy after about an hour. Not just filthy, but completely black.
I wouldn't recommend these pellets to anyone unless they are desperate.

Fblade you are right, I am getting more heat but the ash more plentifull. I am burning a 10 year old P-61.

Today I called the store I got the pellets from and said "They're coming back!" Poor hubbie is reloading the skid to take back. They said I was their first complaint but it wasn't their usual brand to sell. Yes, we have the same Thelin Parlor which is great because you can be so close to the walls, etc. But don't bother wasting your $ on Appling!

Thanks for all the input! It really helped. :snake:

They are terrible..... As I had posted before............. One of my employees tried them but a big chunk of wood jammed their auger and they found a silver dollar sized plastic nut in there too..............
