I have been burning wood in my Avalon Olympic for the last three years and the glass is getting fine scratches and almost has a fogged look on part of the glass. It doesn't matter what I do I can't seem to get the glass to look clear again. Does the glass go bad in the time of three years? I would hope it would last longer than this. It drives me crazy not to be able to see the flames clearly. What could or should I do?

How have you been cleaning the inside/outside surfaces of the pyroceram window installed in your stove? What cleaning solutions/powders/whatever have you been using, and what sort of rag or towel or whatever? Rick

EDIT: What does your owner's manual say about cleaning the window, and have you followed that guidance?

I have been using Fireplace Glass & Hearth Cleaner By Rutland. It says it is non-corrosive, it is the ultra-cling formula. I have been using this stuff for the last two years. This is the first year where the glass is looking roached.

I bough my stove form a friend and he used to scrape the window with a razor. I think this led to some of the cloudiness on mine. To be honest, it does not really bug me at all as I don't really sit and watch the fire in the stove. I can still see what is going on in there, it is just not crystal clear.

This is the third season with my Olympic and I do not have this problem. I use the same exact cleaner and newspaper. however, I clean the glass in the spring and maybe twice during the burn season and that is all

Exactly - getting a good secondary going and the stove top getting over the 600 mark usually cleans mine pretty well. Only when the stove is down do I clean the glass.

I wonder if I ruined my glass because I would try and clean it while the glass was still very warm. In the future if I get the glass replaced I will wait until the glass is totally cool. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have the glass replaced in the Olympic stove?
