I get a lot of wood just taking down the dead trees on my own property and supplement it by scrounging here and there. Last week there was an add on Craigslist about free firewood. People had 5 trees downed in the windstorm. Went the next day to find 4 of them literally laying side by side. The biggest was an ash that was close to 3 foot diameter at the base, looked like it knocked over the other four on the way down.
Due to a tight schedule this week I only got to go twice before today. That stacked up to the pile below, approx 6' high x 13' long + 5 or six 4' lengths around 4-8"'s dia not in the pick. All Ash and Black Birch. (dam that Birch was heavy, the rounds are about 20-22"'s)
I have another full load, about 2/3 cord, in my 8' pickup bed right now.
I wish it had been more Black Birch and less Ash, but my back doesn't.
