A few months ago I got rid of my old-style gas cans because they were old and leaking. So I had to get a new gas can, and of course, all I could get (here in Calif., anyway) is a new "EPA Special." Filling it meant dealing with the weird spout and cap contraption, but I was able to fill it. However, today when I tried to pout gas into the tank of the rental splitter I was using, I could get the bleeping thing to pour. I tried putting the spout in various positions (the cap locks the spout in place), but it still wouldn't pour.

I finally wound up taking the cap off and using a funnel (actually, a cut top of a 2 liter soda bottle) to pour through, so instead of trapping vapors like the can is supposed to do, it no doubt released more than an old-style gas can would have. I'm all for things that reduce emissions ... if they work. But unless someone can tell me the trick of getting the stupid new-style gas can to work, I think I will start watching Craigslist for an old-fashioned Jerry Can - the heavy-duty military-style type.

Has anyone here had better luck with the new gas cans?

Peace,

TreePapa, you are absolutely right. These newer EPA approved fuel containers are a pain in the arse. They might be safer in some areas but using them, I have spilled more gasoline and diesel in the last two years than I ever did in the previous 40 years. The fuel dispensing design of most of the newer fuel containers is just pure junk in my opinion.

However, there is some hope. Try this link http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=NS+1405&catID;=

All of these fuel containers are EPA approved and some are also CARB compliant. Both cans seem to be identical but the CARB compliant model seems to be just a little thicker to allow fewer fumes to escape into the atmosphere. The cans are Made in America and are available from lots of suppliers. I purchased mine from a company in Illinois.

Good luckl

New York state starting using them right after California did. Absolute wastesful pieces of crap. Another useless legislated device. With these "anti-spill" cans, I spill much more fuel that I ever did before. They work a bit better if you add your own vents.

You can still buy original plastic vented "old style" jugs on-line cheap. I just bought a dozer of them for less then $10 each.

Both of mine work fine. You push the button in the back to make it pour. Release the pressure before you tilt it so if it has warmed up since you used it the fuel doesn't gush out. It can stop automatically when the fuel tank tank gets close to the top.

If you found some with a push-button vent, then they've been improved. None that I've found have any vents at all. I went looking a few months ago in Alpena and Presque Isle counties in Michigan and all were non-vented.

I have a fair number of the old plastic cans, I just wish I could get replacement spouts and / or vent caps for them...

This piece of carp has NO vent, no button to make it vent, nothing. Plus it has the funkiest spout I've ever seen. It has a smaller cone-shaped tube inside the larger tube. I actually held the &^%$)ing thing upside down and nothing came out.

I'll look around to see if I can find one with a "button." Otherwise, I'll have to order from Baileys. This one sucks.

:snake: NO ONE...including myself, is smart enough to take care of themselves.
The government has made it abundantly clear that "we" are not to be trusted with making our own decision's.
They are coming out with regulate toilet paper dispensers later this year, because the EPA says we are just polluting the land by flushing too much of this stuff into the ground.
Shame on you all.

Now can someone come to my house and help me get the gas out of this @#%*^ gas can??!! :snake:
