Efficientcy% of a St Croix Stove?

Here is a fuel calculator to help. I think oil and kerosene are close to the same BTU value. Just enter the efficiency of both stoves, and the fuel cost. Knowing the efficiency of the pellet stove is hard. I am not sure there is real test data to back up the manufacture claims. To get the highest efficiency from your pellet stove, I believe you will need to keep it very clean, especially the heat exchangers. If I had to guess, I would say that your pellet stove runs about 75% efficient. Keep in mind that the Monitors numbers are probably manufacture claims, and could very well be on the optimistic side.

I like the direct vent kerosene heaters, but in my area kerosene was $3.50 per gallon the last I checked a couple months ago. Monitors can burn #1 stove oil, can't they? If they can burn oil, and it doesn't gunk them up, that might be cheaper than kerosene.
