Just got an e-mail that their pre-buy prices are posted on their website. $289 plus delivery for Barefoot. I was hoping to see that lower.

Unless you will vouch for a company, I would hesitate to use the term "pre-buy" around here.

LOL, after seeing so many people get burned here on pre-buy programs, one would have to be a fool to pre-pay for pellet fuel in advance.

Then again, I'd also consider it fairly crazy to pay $289 + delivery for a ton of pellets, but that's just my humble opinion.

Yes, I agree. Its a gamble. Barefoot works well for me but my options are limited in terms of where I can get them so I'll have to think on this. I also took another look at their website and they are calling it Early Season Special Prices and not pre-buy.

Looks like I need to look around, Scott has always treated my fairly, But these prices don't look to good. Last springs price was $225/ton!

I can get Spruce Pointe softwoods any day of the week for $270.00/ton.

http://pelletsdelivered.com/products

Has LIGNETICS for $280/ton again early buy! Which is still a little high for my blood.

I don't want to pay more than $235/ton or I'm going to Corn!

I really like Barefoot because I know what I'm getting but I can get CleanFire for $259 from PelletSales.com. Based on what I've read here, people seem to like them. On the other hand, Dry Creek used to be a respected brand but my dealer is saying that they won't even return his calls now because so many people complained. And then theres to low oil price but I have to believe that will go up. It never used to be this complicated when I started with pellets.

does any one deliver to upstate NY...Man this is so annoying.

I also got that email today and called them, those prices are too high for early buy, let's just watch the game....

I sent an e-mail a few weeks ago to where I got pellets last year asking what the expected price would be for early spring buy and I was quoted "don't expect to see more than a 10 to 15% drop in price!" oil right now is around 1.77/gal, the price of gas is roughly 2.00/gal, both at least 50% less than last year at this time so why haven't the price of pellets dropped? I was hoping to see $200.00 per ton! I have seen advertised what they call a furnace grade pellet for cash and carry for 199.00 a ton but you get what you pay for! Good Luck!

I tried thosse pellets and there basically the same as premiem grade but the length. If you looking at those, You might want to try a few bags before jumping on a ton. The length is trouble for so top feeders.

But they burned as good as Turman 100% Oak pellets I got from CT Pellets.

I just got the same post card/email also.

As a newbie here I am looking for advise/opinions.

They list pellets at $259 a ton and up. This seems high as a pre-season special. Things are different now with the economy and the demand for cheaper heating cost. This is less than what I paid late last summer, but I am curious if this is as low as they will get?

What does everyone think? Buy at these prices or wait and see? It is a risk we all have to take. Just interested in hearing from others that have more experience in this area.

Thanks for your input.

I'd suggest you spray your stove down with WD40 and stick it in the closet... it's way cheaper to buy oil right now. I don't see oil prices rising much until the economy comes out of the toilet, and I don't see pellet prices going down much until the housing market picks back up (which will happen when the economy comes out of the toilet).

I purchased Hamer Hot Ones last year (April) early spring buy for 220 a ton and Lignetics (September) 239 a ton. Pellets should not be 280 - 300 a ton!

Get used to it.

if prices stay that high and oil stays down, I'll burn oil then, as wet1 said.

Yes, I got Turman oak pellets last year for $225 a ton. As everyone has been saying things have changed. You might see $230 to $240/ton, But that's a big maybe.

Those prices will increase as we go. Scott usually holds them till mid may before he raise's them.

I'm still going to wait and see. Mid April before I get nervous.

you know I am tired of hearing this statement. Pellets would have to be $600 for me to start using oil again. I used about 300 gallons of oil a month when I was using it. 300 x $2.00 ( estimate) = 600. Pellets @ $300 a ton ( I use about 1 ton a month) = cheaper than oil = savings....

Eveybody has to do what's best for them. We all don't have the same options. He was just making a statement. Don't think he meant any harm. If we all stuck together and didn't buy them they might lower the price, But they could also just export them too! Who knows. There are also peeps that would spend $400 to $500 a ton and not bat an eye lash. That's just the way it is I guess???

I'm searching for cheaper fuels that are as easy for me as pellets. I just can't get my self to spend $1500 for my heating season. $1200 is my max.

If I was to turn on my electric heat I'd be in your boat. I could probably go to $400.00 a ton and still save money.

I'm still trying to understand your 'logic' (or lack there of). You are suggesting it takes only one ton of pellets to replace 300 gallons of oil. A ton of pellets contains 16.5 million BTU, yet 300 gallons of heating oil contains almost 42 million BTU. Assuming your pellet stove is operating at 78% efficiency, that's about 12.87 million net BTU per month. Your oil burner would have to be operating at a measly 30% efficiency to only net the same 12.87 million BTU. Do you really think this is the case? If so, you should get the HVAC man out to your place ASAP!!! Most oil systems run around 80% or so, plus you might have a little additional transfer loss if you're talking about a central heating system, but certainly nowhere near a total loss of around 70%!

But I know what the typical magic pellet user response is: "I don't care what you say, I know I used 4000 gallons of oil to heat my house, but now I do it with only 3 tons of pellets" blah, blah, blah... Okay, sure.

yes my oil furnace is old. Not sure how most of them are but mine heats water so I have a baseboard water heating system. What I should have done instead of buying the pellet stove, is to upgrade my furnace system. I would really like a forced air unit and get these water piped baseboard out of here, but that is definetly not going to happen any time soon.

So yes, 1 ton of pellets did replace 300 gallons of oil..

,

doesn't make much sense but if you say that then good for you. From my perspective I think I won't pay over $230/ton, let's see.

I would like to say the same thing but if I can't find the ones I want for that price, I'm not sure what I will do. I think in the end, I will probably gamble on the price of home heating oil going up this fall. Theres a place in Waterbury CT selling Barefoot for $305 a ton and if I pick it up, its cheaper than CTPellet and this guy is small. I still have time to decide though.

what place is that in Waterbury?

Well I don't use that much oil, maybe a tankfull a year but it doesn't heat my basement where as the pellet stove does and worked well doing the upstairs to keeping the temp around 68. Yes house is very efficent, a Ranch style home. I might have to use the pellet stove on a need be basis this coming winter where I could cut the pellet consumption in half. Thinking I should get multiple heating sources and go with whats the cheapest that year!
